So busy. Left Auckland, had a lovely and uneventful flight to LA. Transferred to a lovely and uneventful flight to SF. I did not get pornoscreened or patted (would have picked the patting, it has happened before in customs about 5 times and I honestly don't care if a female stranger touches my boobs/crotch through my clothes. not a big deal this happens all the time in ballet and fashion. It happened in the aisle of the plane as a stranger planted her hand on my underbutt when I stopped suddenly to turn into my row of seats. I do care about security theatre, and assymetrical levels of consent when dealing with government, or any institution, making images of the body. oh crap I'm likely to be first out of the gate writing about the theoretical implications of backscatter imaging but it sure will burn my crappy former department to do so) but I got directed through the normal metal detector.
Arrived in San Francisco and had fun. Real, normal, fun with other people. (as contrasted with imaginary fun watching 70's glam rock on youtube) I am still kind of having fun in the aftermath of having fun. Had drinks, saw bands, ate food. The thing about Auckland is that there is nothing to do at night, and no used record store. for other people maybe, people who like dance clubs or twee indie music, but not for me. 14 hours of travel and I'm in the middle of people with whom I have more than one thing in common. it was disorientating. Thank you a million times over to my hosts I hope I wasnt too much of a pain in the ass.
now, in the middle of the midwest snow dump. northern winter wonderland. I'm making an early new year's resolution to write more, even in the 'what I ate for lunch/what I saw on the bus' mode because I have to make an effort, really for me it is a huge effort, to talk more and interact. silent watcher of other people's weirdness might be an ok position from which to write.
