writer's block question: What's in your refrigerator right now?
ha ha, nothing, because I don't have a refrigerator!
the apartment came with a washing machine in the refrigerator's place in the kitchen. (on an unrelated note, the apartment also has thin walls, and the neighbors are doing it right now. I can hear the headboard thumping against the cinderblock wall.) Having no refrigerator is not so difficult, because I live near supermarkets and have a car. I can finish a 1 litre soymilk in 24 hours, and eggs do not have to be refrigerated in the southern hemisphere. Room temperature soda and beer do not bother me. I miss out on having open jars of sauce that needs refrigeration, like sambal olek or Bragg's Liquid Aminos, and I have to plan cooking for minimal leftovers that can be eaten within a 12-hour window of not rotting yet. (my host family in the Netherlands used to put leftovers in the oven, unheated, to keep for the next day) Otherwise, it's very economical.
