but I'm stuck at home for at least the next three days..and there are pictures involved, so what the hell.
I ended up at the hospital yesterday. Thankfully, it was for a work-related accident, since I don't have insurance yet. And also because I got away with minimal injuries when I could've been hurt really really bad.
So..my restaurant just underwent a huge remodel..and now we have a new kitchen..with a new dish pit..with a new huge trap door in the middle of the floor of the dish pit room that leads down to the unfinished basement. There are also supports that you put around this hole when the trap door is open.
However, some of the painters had it open and didn't plan on having it open very long, so they didn't put up the supports. and I went in the dish pit to unload a tray full of dishes, when my kitchen manager walked in with an arm full of dishes, so I stepped back to let him put down his dishes first so he could get back to cooking..and stepped back (apparently, I don't actually remember...) into the hole. brilliant.
The next thing I remember I'm lying on the concrete floor of the basement in quite a bit of pain with a bunch of EMT's around me asking me questions. So I guess I blacked out. Then, thankfully, John Paul was suddenly at my side holding my hand saying everything would be ok. He's such a sweetheart. THey strap me on a board, in case I have serious neck or back injuries, but say that all they really see is a gash above my eye and one on the back of my head. and a scrape on my knee.
So I go to the hospital and everything's fine (of course) and I get stitches for the cut on the back of my head and some super glue stuff for the thing by my eye and my CT comes back clean and my GM drives me home. It was only about a 3 hour ordeal.
but! the fun part about all of this is that where I stepped back into was not the top of the stairs..no it was the part of the hole above the bottom of the (10-15) stairs and I'm pretty sure what happened (based on my injuries) is that, because I'm so tall, I hit my head on the other side of the hole, which made it so I didn't go head first into the concrete and probably sort of flopped me to my left side (the one with allthe bruises and cuts) which then hit the bottom of the stairs/floor. It's pretty scary to think about now because I could've had some really serious injuries falling as far as I did onto what I did..but for whatever reason..I got off relatively clean. I'm still pretty weak and sore, but it's better than broken bones (or a broken neck) or whatever else could've happened. And at least it happeend to me, with minimal injuries, and now they will have to be MUCH more careful about that stupid trap door. they're even talking about nailing it down and not having the basement area. I just hope no one shorter than me falls into it EVER..because they probably would end up head first in concrete. not fun.
anyway! that was my fun story of yesterday. and here are pictures
this beautiful mess is blood caked in my hair. tell me then, why does my hair look so good? hrrmm...
and then this morning. a little better color.
