The zerg did not make any noise as they landed - at least, none audible to the ears of the humans below. Zerglings and drones poured out from the impact sites, quickly establishing themselves - the drones digging into the earth and growing, twisting themselves, never to move from their place again ( Read more... )

"Come join the dance," River said, tilting her head. "And wish for better luck."

She extended a wing tip and poked Kerrigan.

"If nothing else, we can use this to draw Jimmy away from our other efforts," Kerrigan noted.

She looked at River. "I need you to take some of our Queens and deposit the virus in the nearest settlement," she said. "I'll be close behind with the troops."

"He will come, he always does," River replied. She took a few steps forward, then turned her head to look ar Kerrigan. "Fingers crossed."

She sent out a call to the Queens, requesting them to join her.

Three Queens obeyed her command, sliding slowly but nimbly through the air.

"Oh, and I have a present for you," Kerrigan added. A large creature unburrowed by River's side. "This infestor cannot leave traces of the virus on the buildings as the Queens can, but it may take individual Terrans," she explained. "It will be useful."

River petted the creature . "Come play," she said, then set off, followed by her team.

Ahead, the Terrans weren't playing - they were cautious instead. Eight marines patrolled the small bridge that lead into the Terran settlement, toting guns, completely unaware of what was coming - but ready to shoot it anyway.

They would have no choice but to play.

River shifted into human form, then approached, telling the Queens and the Infestor to follow her but avoid being spotted. As she came close enough for the Marines to spot her, their immediately raised their guns.

"Halt!"

River stopped , her shoulders drawn up and tense. "Will you help me?" The Marines weren't that easily fooled, of course, but it was strange enough for them to hesitate, and exchange a few words among themselves. In that moment, River leapt forward, and before they could fire she was close enough, her wings now spreading and stabbing at her enemies. Her companions followed.

They fell easily before her blades; there was little for Kerrigan to do after but mop up the pieces, ordering her forces to take the marines' bunker for scrap.

"River," she called. "Unload the virus on the first human settlement you see."
