King's Fest 2009

Jul 22, 2009 15:34

Since I've been quite busy the last week and a half, I'm going to make separate entries for King's Fest and Otakon. Here's part one.

Thursday, July 9th, I headed down to Doswell, VA with James and Andrea around 1:30pm. After a bit of adventurous exploring, we finally found our hotel and checked in around 3:30. We relaxed for a few minutes before heading over to King's Dominion for Day 1 of King's Fest. After popping over to the stage to get the performance schedule, we had enough time to ride The Dominator (my 2nd favorite coaster in the park!) before coming back for Family Force 5. I'm not really into FF5's style of music, so James and Andrea enjoyed it more than I did, but I do have to admit that those guys know how to have fun on stage. ^_^ After that was Jeremy Camp, who I was excited to see back this year! He was awesome, as always. He was done by about 8, and we didn't feel like sticking around for Reliant K, so we rode a few more rides then went back to the hotel for the night, deciding to order a Philly Cheesesteak pizza from Dominos (OM NOM NOM). Christina arrived a short while later and we watched The Mummy on TV before turning in for the night.

Friday, July 10th. We met up with two of James's friends from Nexus (an online MMORPG that he plays...), Josie and Chris, who both turned out to be awesome people! -^^- (Facebook friending ensued later.) This was definitely our ride day, and we rode almost everything that we wanted to. The concerts we saw on Friday were Skillet and Switchfoot. Skillet rocked my face off as usual. I can't wait for their new album in August! And Switchfoot was also fun. I had never seen them in concert before and they're a pretty big name. Not to mention our excitement when Jon Foreman (the lead singer) came down into the audience and ended up standing RIGHT NEXT TO US. *squee* I touched his hand at one point. I'm such a nerd. :3 When we went back to the hotel, Andrea's mom was there waiting for us (Andrea had gone back to the hotel to meet up with her earlier) and after another late-night trip for food we went to bed (with Andrea, me and her mom all crammed in one bed, but it worked out).

Saturday, July 11th. Met up with Chris and Josie again around noon and we went to the waterpark area of KD. Had lots of watery fun, but I got a nice sunburn along with it. >_< We stayed in the waterpark until about 4, then we went back out to change and go see Kutless at 5:45. Chris and Josie skipped out those concerts but met up with us again for dinner. They left again before we headed back to the amphitheater for the final concert of the night, Newsboys. I was sad that Peter Furler was no longer the lead singer, but was excited to see Michael Tait, former lead singer of DC Talk. The songs sounded different without the Aussie accent, of course, but I think Michael did a good job. Not to mention they threw some DC Talk songs into the mix, including "Jesus Freak". *headbangs* Not to mention the awesome that occured when the entire band came down in the audience and performed on a small platform that was literally two rows behind us. We were literally staring straight up at Michael Tait. @.@

Overall a very exciting, exhausting, fun and praise-filled weekend. I'm already looking forward to next year!

I should also mention that on Monday, July 13th, I went down to Massanutten to join Jennie at their family's time share at a resort in the mountains. Shawn was also there and Rosie and Nelson were there until that evening as well. It was a beautiful area. That afternoon we attended a small crafts fair and for $3 I got some tickets for wine tasting. Actually found some samples that I liked (I don't really drink a lot of wine), so I'll probably look into purchasing some bottles in the future. We also went mini-golfing and snow-tubing (minus the snow obviously). After Jennie made dinner we settled in to watch "Across the Universe" which I had never seen. It was an odd movie (very Hippie, 60's Flower Power), but I enjoyed the music. The next day went Go-karting with Jennie and Shawn and showed Shawn "1776" before I had to head for home.

That's all for now. Next up is "Half-Blood Prince" premiere and Otakon!
