RP Log: IC!Near and IC!L

Feb 08, 2007 20:05

Finally deciding to take L up on his offer, Near goes to stay at the investigation headquarters. He and L talk casually, neither bringing the matter of Mello, the clones, or anything else up.

That Mello had left before him hadn't surprised Near at all. In the end, he decided it'd be best, for both of their mental sake, to give Mello a few days to get at the Kira Investigation headquarters to let him cool down a bit, and he could take advantage of the time to finally finish his new puzzle. Once that was done, Near considered it was more than enough time and finally went to the headquarters, taking with him only a dufflebag which mainly carried a few of his toys.

L was waiting for him at the doorway, the outdoor lights turned on to illuminate his way. It was considerably late, and he didn't want Near to get lost or hurt. Plus, he had spent some time with Mello, and it would be nice to do the same with Near as well.

Once he had paid the cab (who was angry at him for 'not knowing' the address since Near had made him go through several streets, just in case) and went out, Near couldn't help but smile a little, surprised, when he found L there, walking towards him. "Good evening, L. I apologize for my tardiness."

L smiled. "It's no problem, Near," he assured him, smiling a bit. "Next time, do call though, if you'll be late. I don't want to worry that Kira's gotten to you or that you crashed..." Going over to him, L gave him a hug, warm. He smiled. "Now, it's chilly out here. Let's go inside." Picking up Near's bag and walking back to the door, holding Near's hand, L left no room for arguement. He was L, after all.

"Ah... of course." The hug, he had somewhat expected it and had been pleased at receiving it, since, after the conclusion that he was infatuated with L, he had been able to realize why he never minded L's touch. That said, it took him a considerable effort not to let his surprise be too evident when L held his hand, not saying about how it wasn't necessary for L to carry his bag, instead trying to pay attention to the way they were going, and how L's hand felt so warm.

Guiding Near inside, L set his bag down by the hallway, turning on a low lamp in the sitting room, gesturing for Near to sit down on the sofa where he had before. The room was warm, considerably warmer than outside had been, the dim light provided an enjoyable ambeience for the room.

"How are you, Near?" L asked, sitting down across from him on the couch, splaying out on it for once. "Do you want a hot chocolate? It's rather chilly out, isn't it?"

Near waited a moment until he was sure his voice wasn't going to creak like it usually do of its own will, even more when he was feeling somewhat nervous before pulling his leg up, wrapping both arms around each other to stop himself with playing with his hair, since this time around it would be out of nerves.

"I'm quite fine, L, thank you for your concern," he said with the same small smile, before nodding again. He was a bit cold after all, and if he was doing something as foolish as blushing, he could always blame it on the wind. "Hot chocolate would be lovely, L."

L smiled, nodding, getting up. "You look cold. It'll do you some good." He went into the kitchen, returning a few minutes later with two steaming cups, handing one to Near.

"I premade the mix," he explained, sitting down beside Near, sipping from his own. "All it needed was to be heated up. Hopefully this'll help you warm up. Your cheeks are still flushed. And if not, maybe my body heat from sitting closer will help as well."

So he was blushing. Near took one of the offered cups with both hands. Finding himself without knowing how to reply, he blew over the steam rising from the cup before taking a sip. "Of course," Near said, and for once stopped himself from wondering if he meant the chocolate or L's suggestion. "Thank you, it's delicious."

L smiled. "I'm glad. You don't often express opinoins about the sort of things you like, so I was hoping you would." Sipping with his left hand, his right idle, it drifted into Near's hair to play with it again, a habit from usually keeping his hands busy. "Hot chocolate is good, though. Sweet things usually are."

The same sense of contentment that he had experienced the previous time started to spread through him, and Near's shoulders relaxed further, something that someone who didn't know him probably wouldn't have noticed. He took another sip, still huddling around his leg. Sweet things were really more Mello's realm, but Near wasn't about to say that"I'll be sure to let you know when I like something."

L blinked, noticing the leg. Huddling up against your self was usually a sign of being uncomfortable, but that logically didn't make sense, as Near had no reason to be uncomfortable with him, so L realized Near must still be cold.

Moving, L snagged a blanket and moved so Near was sitting in his lap to better ursurp his body heat. He smiled. "There," he said, spreading the blanket over them. "Better, now?" he smiled, still toying with his hair.

That depends on what you consider 'better', Near thought about answering for a fleeting, insane moment. I've never really thought that experiencing tachicardy was good, though. He was very grateful that several of the classes at Wammy made them go through stressful situations, since 85% of his body mas remained relaxed, despite the fact that he was sitting in L's lap.

He still was thirteen, and he sent a firm order to the rest of his body to keep calm or else before he nodded, hesitantly leaning his head against L's hand. "... yes, L. Thank you."

L smiled, pulling him a little closer. "Good," he murmured. "I'm glad..." Finishing his chocolate, L set his cup aside, curling up a bit on the couch, stroking Near's hair half-sleepily, not quite sure just why he liked to touch him so much. He yawned a bit. It was getting late, and he might be about to doze off on the couch with Near, but he wouldn't trade the moment for anything in the world.
