Tip for the wedding planners

Feb 18, 2004 00:47

I was reminded recently about a tip I received when planning my wedding, I thought it might be a good thing to pass on.

I was told to request that my invitations be hand canceled. Apparently running thicker envelopes though the canceling machine can cause them to smear or in some cases be crumpled. So I requested it when I brought my invitations to the post office and they were happy to oblige.

I didn't discover the most important reason to request hand canceling until I got my first reply card back. Sometimes the post office will add a message to the stamp cancellation, during the winter it is often something like Happy Holidays or seasons greetings. I received my first reply card and discovered that I had apparently chosen "National Communicable Diseases Awareness Week" to send my invitations. I had a moment of panic, hoping the woman at the post office really had taken the time to hand cancel my mail and hadn't just shoved it into the machine. A few calls verified that my guests were only informed of the date of my mailing, and were spared the public service announcement.
