what ended up on the playlist (with notes! And quotes! And snark! Yay!)
Yes, they're in chronological order. It seemed the best way to go, given that I had no earthly idea how else to organize it. And yes, there's more from the HCL soundtrack than there is from Hugh Dillon's current project. This is because Hard Core Logo has CKR in it. And I'm not completely sold on HDRC as a concept. And no one should be expected to choose between "Blue Tattoo" and "Edmonton Block Heater"
I really need a Headstones userpic. Maybe I'll go do that, instead of studying. Or waiting for someone to twig to the fact that my last set of ptsd posts all use lyrics for titles. /twiddles thumbs impatiently/
Disc One:
When Something Stands For Nothing (Headstones)
So much love for this song. This song alone would put Hugh Dillon on my list of celebrities I'd shag.
"this one's about rock and roll and comic books and bubble gum"
Three Angels (Headstones)
My default song for escaping crappy meetings. Or classes. Or conversations. Or seasons. Because when I sing along, everyone leaves the crazy girl alone.
"and I guess it beats the hell out of loneliness"
Cut (Headstones)
The intro reminds me of Concrete Blonde, and the rest reminds me of high school.
"there must 've been some light that got through"
Won't Wait Forever (Headstones)
Dude, there's a harmonica. And laughing.
"claiming to be everything that you're not"
Hindsight (Headstones)
Um, yeah. Dance music, road music, fuck with your neighbors music.
"to know what it's like to stand up and walk away"
Hearts, Love & Honour (Headstones)
Let's just say they don't come down in favor of any of these things.
"we dedicate ourselves to lovers, causes, things"
Dripping Dime Sized Drops (Headstones)
Guitars. And plausible use of the phrase "Tuesday last."
"i'm pretty sure that it was everything I had"
Look Away (Headstones)
Memory sucks. I'm just saying. As is Hugh Dillon, apparently.
"went through the windshield left these pills on the floor"
Something's Gonna Die Tonight (Hugh Dillon And Swamp Baby)
Go watch HCL. Go on, it'll be good for you. And you'll understand the song. Also, my adoration for CKR will be much easier to comprehend. Two words: knife licking.
"there ain't no point in wrong or right"
Blue Tattoo (Hugh Dillon And Swamp Baby)
Well, duh. Angst and ink. My favorite things.
"it went right to your head and it drove you insane"
Edmonton Block Heater (Hugh Dillon And Swamp Baby)
Heh. Goofy, but catchy.
"take me out of this frozen season"
Disc Two:
Cubically Contained (Headstones)
due South. You knew it was gonna be in here somewhere. (Anybody else know which episode it was in?)
"the first tiny little shadows of my creepy little thoughts"
Pretty Little Death Song (Headstones)
Your basic "Hi, I'm Hugh Dillon. If you don't like our music, kindly fuck off" tune. Always popular with the kiddies.
"necrophilia, addiction, and insanity"
Without A Sound (Headstones)
Pretty clothes and suicide. And the Coast Guard. Fantastic.
"but I knew it was a smile that had frozen"
Nerve (Headstones)
What Nirvana might have sounded like, if Nirvana didn't make me want to scoop my brain out with a spork.
"what can I do just to make you fucking stop"
Settle (Headstones)
I suppose I could claim that it's about playing chess. I'd be lying, but hey, who could tell?
"take back your pieces, take back your pawns"
Blonde & Blue (Headstones)
It's a love song. No, really.
"holding me down and pulling off my wings"
Fuck You (Headstones)
Seriously? Does anybody have to ask about the appeal of this song? I didn't think so.
In my defense, it's not just about the language. There's also some incredible alliteration. Which, I guess, is also about the language. Never mind.
"try to walk away with pieces that you want"
Little Lies (Headstones)
Hey. And hey again. Such a happy song about being unhappy. And driving.
"nothing but distance and skyline"
Whatchagonnado (Headstones)
Breaking up has never sounded so exciting.
"gonna drink fight party rock all night long"
Reframed (Every Single Failure) (Headstones)
Heavy duty repeat, complete with a hairbrush microphone and lots of jumping. If it weren't for mp3s, I'd have worn this track out. I catch myself singing it in the supermarket. The love I have for this song knows no bounds.
"your ability to ridicule has left things at a stand still"
Nothing Changes (Headstones)
Thud. Thud. Thud. Melody.
"i'm already long gone"
And It Goes (Headstones)
Peppy, and yet people die. Cool.
"everyone makes mistakes you know and some of them are fatal"
Love Her (Hugh Dillon Redemption Choir)
What can I say? The juxtaposition of this and the previous song makes me giggle.
"don't you love her madly"
