I need a change of scenery. Ryo is in all of my fic. Even in the non-Ryo-slash-someone ones, he has always managed to worm in some sort of mention that it almost seems mandatory. Today I want to do things a little differently. I haven't written any drabbles lately, so I think it's high time I post a drabble meme like Momo did a few days ago.

“An old lamp?” he says instead, when Jin practically shoves his new find under Kame’s nose.
Jin grins. “Just like that Disney movie! A-ra…”
“Aladdin,” Kame corrects automatically. He wrinkles his nose. “Put it back, Jin. It’s dusty and tarnished and-”
“Maybe there’s a genie in it!” Jin goes on, snatching the dust cloth from Kame’s hand and rubbing enthusiastically at the lamp.
“Genies don’t exist.” Kame’s tone is bluntly matter-of-fact, branded with the recurring tinge of exasperation that his voice always acquires when he is having a nonsensical conversation with Jin.
Jin’s smile doesn’t reach his eyes, but Kame doesn’t notice. For all of Kame’s innate meticulousness, he doesn’t notice a lot of things-like how Jin’s eyes get just a little brighter whenever he enters the room, or the way Jin always intentionally says something silly in an attempt to make Kame loosen up.
Or how Jin’s volunteering to help clean Kame’s apartment is not simply a promise founded on selflessness and good will. Kame just thinks Jin doesn’t have better things to do on his day off.
Kame doesn’t notice a lot of things, no matter how much Jin tries to make him.
“You get three wishes from a genie, right?” Jin asks, opting to ignore Kame’s response.
“In fairytales, yes,” Kame indulges him with a sigh, perhaps with the hope that if he does, they can soon move to a topic that is remotely rational.
Jin holds the lamp up to the light. “What would you wish for?” he asks seriously, and Kame stares strangely at him.
“No idea. A whole week off, maybe. For starters, for the stuff in my storage closet to be completely cleaned up.” He gives Jin a pointed look, but Jin only rolls his eyes.
“That’s a waste of wishes.”
“Then for the third, I’d wish for an infinite number of wishes,” Kame responds logically.
“Greedy,” Jin answers, and Kame laughs. Kame doesn’t notice Jin smiling fondly when he does. “One wish is enough for me.”
Curiosity makes Kame’s laughter short-lived. “And what would that wish be?”
Jin stares contemplatively at the lamp in his hands. “I’d wish I was someone that you’d want to spend the rest of your life with.” Kame blinks, and Jin laughs loudly, the way he would whenever he thinks he has just delivered a hilarious joke. Jin’s smile doesn’t reach his eyes, and this time Kame notices.
“That’s a waste of a wish,” Kame answers with a roll of his eyes, and Jin’s smirk wavers. He suddenly finds it very hard to pretend.
Better than any of yours, Jin should have retorted haughtily, but what comes out of his mouth is a half-serious “Why?”
Kame shakes his head and smiles, pale fingers grazing over Jin’s own as he takes the lamp from the other man. Jin’s skin prickles where Kame has touched it, and he pretends that it is due to the magic of the lamp, the same magic that he imagines is in Kame’s eyes when Kame looks back at him with the seemingly most unguarded expression he has ever allowed Jin to see yet, and Jin wants to believe that it isn’t just wishful thinking. “Because you already are,” Kame says softly.
And as Jin’s lips curve into a real smile, eyes crinkling at the corners, he thinks that sometimes you don’t need to have a genie for your wishes to come true.
