Once More, the Dear Yuletide Author letter
Here we go for another year! Yay!
First of all - thank you so much for offering to write in one of my tiny pet fandoms! I realize that in some cases, the canon is a little hard to get a hold on, so thank you for agreeing to take on something a teeny bit obscure. I fully understand that Optional Details Are Optional, and pretty much anything you write will make me squee. I do have two Please Don't requests. The first is pretty standard: no non-con in the main story, please. If it's a reference to an implied past event, I can handle it, but I have a serious consent fetish - even dubcon weirds me out if it's not made clear by the end that everyone was basically okay with it. (On the flip side, enthusastic consent to either explicit or implied sex makes me nicely melty.) The second is a little less justifiable, but - please, I'd really prefer not a total downer ending. It's okay if things end in a dark place as long as there's a light at the end of the tunnel, or at least a possibility of one, but I'd prefer it if there were at least some hope. In general, I'm a multishipper, and I ship het, slash, femslash, and poly with roughly equal ease; at the same time, I am also totally fine with genfic. If you do decide to swing explicit in the fic, I do have a few squicks - bloodplay/weapon-play, unsafe anal sex (with condoms and lube it's fine), and anything involving former food. I'm especially fond of playful kinks, jealousy-free threesomes or triads, and hurt/comfort (whether shippy, smarmy, or friendshippy). PWP isn't my favorite thing in the world, and neither is fluff, but in either case if it reveals or illuminates something about the characters, or expands the worldbuilding, I can easily forgive a lack of plottiness.
On to this year's specific requests:
1) The Game Overthinker, Overthinker & Ivan: There's just no fic for this fandom, which I find inexcusable. I'll be pleased as punch with anything you write, but I'd be especially interested in something that explores the mentor/intern relationship between the OverThinker and Ivan.
First of all, if you're not familiar with this at all, it's a web series in which MovieBob rambles on for ten to twenty minutes about someting in videogaming that's pissing him off; you can find them on Screwattack.com or on his YouTube channel. Around the 38th episode, he started adding skits in which a thinly-veiled Gary Stu-esque version of himself called the OverThinker went around eliminating video-game-based threats from the real world. It's terribly cheesy and has bad effects, sometimes deliberately.
Anyway, I'd love to see something about how the OverThinker interacts with the three other characters he seems to have at least some sort of relationship with: Ivan the Fairy Intern in particular, but if you wanted to thow in Commissioner Bunnyface or RetroThinker, I wouldn't mind a bit.
2) Real Ghostbusters, Ray Stantz & Janine Melnitz: Most of the stories in this fandom are Peter-Egon-centric. I'd love to see something investigating how they interact, either on- or off-duty. If there happened to be an unstoppable evil that was immune to Peter's wisecracking for once and required their skills instead, that would be awesome.
I've requested something like this several years in a row. Mostly it's just out of a desire to see these two step out of the Brain and the Wisecracker's shadows. If you felt like throwing Winston (another character who doesn't have enough stories of his own) into the mix, that would be awesome, too - and don't feel like you can't include Peter and Egon; I'd just prefer a story where they're not the focus. The Firehouse Five are my OT5, so you can pair or triple or puppy pile them however you want, if you want to write shippy fic, but gen bustin' hijinks are also awesome!
3) Phonogram, Silent Girl: Another one for which there's just no fic at all. Pretty much anything you write for this one will make me happy, but either something about her relationship with one of the other characters (Seth is the obvious choice, but either David or Emily could also be interesting) or about her approach to phonomancy would be cool.
Phonogram is an awesome comic, and I can't tell you how thrilled I am that it's finally getting its third installment. In the meantime, honestly, I'll take anything - if you'd rather write about Lloyd and his struggles with his 'Zine of Shadows, or the further adventures of David in the Memory Kingdoms, that's fine, too. Silent Girl just happens to be my favorite character, and I'd love to find out what someone else's take on her is. I mean, we don't even know for sure that she's a phonomancer; she could be Seth's equivalent to KWK.
A couple of general notes: I'm not generally much for holiday-themed fic, although if it develops character, again, I'll be fine. However, a few of the characters named above aren't Christian, and it'll weird me out a bit for them to be all-in on Christmas except in the purely secular sense. In particular, Ivan the Intern is a fairy, Commissioner Bunnyface is explicitly still of the Lapine faith, Ray is at least agnostic in the movies and possibly Pagan-ish in the cartoon, Janine is pretty clearly coded Jewish, and it seems like the Phonogram universe is at least quasi-Pagan by default. I don't have strong opinions for or against things like crossovers, genderswaps, etc., but I'm not generally into AUs other than the "what-if" types.
