So the GOPers also put an
anti-gay plank in the state platform, which surprises absolutely no one, I'm sure. It's that last sentence that weirds me out, though. It reads like they're saying that there shouldn't be any legal penalties for gay-bashing - not even assualt or murder charges. And I'm not sure whether that's just because no one proofread the document (as demonstrated in the previous post) or whether they actually meant to say that assault on a GLBTQ person should not be illegal if it was performed out of religious conviction.
If it's the latter, would they be in favor of assault charges if the assailant does not claim religious reasons? Clearly, some muckraker just out of journalism school needs to grab a camera and a microphone and go find out.
I tried to open the link in the article to slog through the whole document, just to see what other nonsensical crap was lurking therein, but the .pdf the link goes to is busted, as is the one on the texasgop.org site. And I don't have Word on this computer, and didn't feel like downloading the .doc file and then converting it to Pages, even though it's not actually all that difficult. So someone else gets to do that, and whoever the TXGOP's web coder is could probably use a proofreader as well.
