A man can’t have everything, no matter how hard he tries. Even if he feels he deserves it all. Maybe because he felt that he deserved it all.
It was probably inevitable, losing one to gain the other, but Ozai was, if anything else, a man who would take a chance if it presented itself to him. And Lu Ten dying in the siege of Ba Sing Se - along with Iroh’s will to fight - was the chance of a lifetime.
What he hadn’t realised was that he couldn’t have one without giving up another. He had to give up Ursa.
