Kang Seung-won, 33, a chef nicknamed "Triple Star" from the Netflix cooking competition "Culinary Class Wars," also known as Scott Kang, and owner of the restaurant Trid in Seoul’s Cheongdam-dong, is facing multiple allegations concerning his personal life.
Dispatch, an online media outlet, reported claims from Kang’s ex-wife. She alleges that during her stay in the U.S. for business in 2014, she helped Kang, then a culinary student at Le Cordon Bleu, secure positions at Michelin-starred restaurants Atelier Crenn and Benu by offering gifts, including a Chanel bag, to relevant contacts.
A mutual acquaintance corroborated the ex-wife's claims, saying, “It’s rare for an inexperienced student to land a spot at Michelin-starred restaurants,” suggesting that her assistance played a role.
In response, Kang countered, saying, “I earned my place there through my hard work and recognition from the head chef.” He added that he started as an unpaid intern, working diligently, and was promoted within a month.
Regarding the Chanel bag, he said, “I don’t want to argue about the truth of that matter.”
Kang's ex-wife also revealed a letter purportedly written by Kang, detailing inappropriate behavior such as allegedly watching female customers on CCTV and pressuring her into situations with other men.
She added that he was consistently involved in relationships with other women during their time together.
Kang responded, saying he could not recall the specific contents of the letter.
His ex-wife further claimed that she received a threatening message from Kang in August last year, where he allegedly wrote, “I really want to stab and kill them all.”
Kang’s lawyer suggested there may be additional context missing from the message.
The ex-wife is an investor in Kang’s Cheongdam restaurant, with a reported 150 million won ($115,000) stake. The two were married in May 2022 but divorced within three months.
Previously, Kang placed third on Netflix’s "Culinary Class Wars."
In response to the controversy, Netflix commented, “It is difficult to verify reports related to cast members’ personal matters.”
