YouTuber Heebab reveals $26,000 earnings from last month in mukbang challenge
Heebab, a popular YouTuber known for her mukbang videos (live-streamed content where viewers watch the host eat large quantities of food) and boasting 1.6 million subscribers, recently revealed her monthly earnings. She made the disclosure as part of a promise she fulfilled after successfully finding a meal companion for her streams.
On the latest episode that aired on Saturday, viewers saw Heebab, search for a meal companion in the southeastern city of Daegu during the segment of the show known as "Saturday is Bap's Treat."
Heebab was tasked with finding a person to share a meal with and cover the bill. If unsuccessful, she would have to dine alone and even ring the golden bell - meaning that she would have to pay with her own card.
Nervous about whether anyone would buy her a meal, Heebab hesitantly took to the streets, wondering aloud, "Who would treat me to a meal?"
Though many Daegu residents recognized the popular YouTuber and greeted her warmly, they were hesitant to buy her a meal. After a long wait and facing rejection from her first offer, Heebab continued her search with a heavy heart.
Eventually, she found a couple who had been dating for only nine days. Confidently, she led her new meal companions to a famous pork belly restaurant in Dongseong-ro, a well-known local spot.
As they placed their first order, Heebab playfully hinted at a "hidden card" and then boldly asked, "Ever wonder how much a YouTuber with 1.6 million subscribers earns? I'll reveal my salary."
During their meal, one of the companions asked, "How much do you spend on food in a month?" Heebab responded, "Including content creation costs for YouTube, it comes to around 15 million won."
After the meal, Heebab fulfilled her promise and revealed her salary. She candidly explained, "My income fluctuates a lot. Sometimes, after taxes, I'm left in the negative. Last month, though, I earned quite a bit - around 35 million won ($26,000)."
Heebab, whose real name is Jwa Hee-je, had previously appeared on KBS2's Boss in the Mirror, where she shared insights about her health, saying, "I get a health check-up once a year. My doctor even expressed interest in writing a paper about me, as my stomach produces a lot of acid and is highly elastic."
On the same show, when her company executives were asked about their salaries, they disclosed, "We earn around 12 million won before taxes each month," which surprised many viewers.
Heebab justified the high salaries, saying, "We've been together since the early days, so I compensate them well. Even new producers receive over 5 million won per month."
