Flashback Friday

Happy Friday! Every week I go through the charts for this day in the past and post the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back to the 3rd week in August, 2017. Most of the songs were posted before, so this week we’ll check out their comeback stages on Music Core.

#3 Blackpink “As If It’s Your Last”
The group’s only Korean release this year, and a standalone single. It would peak in the #3 spot. The group would follow promotions with their Japanese debut. Probably one of the few Blackpink songs I can listen to, I remember liking it back then. It was officially confirmed by Minzy as a 2NE1 reject a few years ago.

#2 EXO “Ko Ko Bop”
I think I was like “whatever” when it came out, but I’ve grown to like it? I don’t know when that happened, but I don’t automatically skip the song anymore. It was the title track to the group’s 4th full album, “The War”. It would peak at the top spot, and is the first release not to feature Lay.

#1 Gfriend “Love Whisper”
I don’t remember this at all. I think it was because it was the follow up to “Fingertip” and anything that followed that wasn’t that memorable to me I guess because my ass LOVED “Fingertip”. That sounded weird. Anyways. It did well and won a trophy at pretty much every music show.

Honorable Mentions

#5 Winner “Love Me Love Me”
This was a good year for the group. Mino would find mainstream success with his addition to New Journey To The West, and the group would release their monster hit, “Really Really”. This was one of the follow up singles. Today is actually the group’s 10th anniversary. Still one of the best debut rollouts imho.

#8 Girls’ Generation “Holiday”
I forgot what this song sounded like until I hit play. This was one of the singles for the group’s album “Holiday Night”, which was released to celebrate the girl’s 10th anniversary. It would be their last release together all under SM Entertainment. Two months later Tiffany, Sooyoung, and Seohyun would leave the company.
