Flashback Friday

Every week I go through the charts for this day in the past and share the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week we are going back to the 1st week in July, 2018. I only really remember one song this week. Which is weird because it doesn’t feel so long ago. But 6 years is kind of a long time, I guess?

#3 Bol4 “Travel”
This was the lead single from the duo’s EP “Red Diary Page 2”. It was another big hit for the indie duo, and would achieve an all-kill on the charts within hours of its release. They would follow up promotions with concerts in Seoul, Taipei, and Tokyo.

#2 SHINee “I Want You”
In celebration of the group’s 10 year anniversary, the group released a three part album, “The Story Of Light”. “I Want You” was the lead single of the second part of the album. I do not remember this at all, but also I was at the point in time where I couldn’t watch anything SHINee just yet.

#1 Wanna One “Light”
This was the title track of the group’s 3rd EP “1÷x=1 (Undivided)”. For the EP, the group was split into units and collaborated with other artists for each song. “Light” was the only song to feature the whole group. The song would win 7 music show trophies.

Honorable Mentions

#6 Gfriend “Time For The Moon Night”
This was the lead single for the group’s sixth EP of the same name. It would peak at the top spot. It was also the only song in 2018 to achieve a music show grand slam, winning the trophy at all six shows.

#8 Blackpink “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du”
This was the lead single from the group’s first Korean EP, “Square Up”. The only song that I remember this week. Kinda. With further inspection, I only really remember the chorus. I don’t remember the rest of the song or this music video at all. The song was a hit, and would win 11 music show trophies. It would also win a handful of year-end awards and is included on the list of many international publications’ “Best K-Pop” lists.
