Flashback Friday

Jun 21, 2024 12:25

Happy Friday! Every week I go through the charts for this day in the past and share the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back to see what was on top for the 3rd week in June, 2017. I know some of these songs, but I don’t remember this point in time. Like, I remember it happening, but it could have happened 4 years ago or 14 years idk lol.

#3 Highlight “Calling You”
This was a repackage of their EP “Can You Feel It?”, that was released a few months prior. It was their big comeback under the new name. They added 2 new songs, and the new album was called “Calling You”. This was the title track, and would peak at #3 on the charts. I don’t remember this at all. I remember the comeback, but not the songs idk.

#2 Astro “Baby”
This was the lead single from the group’s EP, “Dream Part.01”. It did well on the charts, and was the group’s first album to peak at the top spot. Following promotions they started their first ever tour, with stops in Korea and Japan. Let’s check out the MV again, where Sanha is a damn big giant BABY lol! Also, this just send me down a Astro rabbit hole and I miss them ok.

#1 Twice “Signal”
This was the lead single of the group’s EP of the same name. The song was their first song produced by JYP. It would debut at the top spot on the charts, and go on to win 12 music show trophies. It also won the MAMA awards for SOTY and Best Female Dance Performance. I couldn’t get into this. That’s all I really remember from this era lol. Here’s their comeback stage at M Countdown.

Honorable Mentions

#6 Sistar “Lonely”
The end of an era. At the end of May, Starship announced the official disbandment of Sistar following a final release. The song would be a success, and would peak at the top spot on the charts. I really loved their promotions for this song because they went on the music shows and also performed some of their greatest hits. It felt like a proper farewell. Most of the time groups just disappear without much of a goodbye. Anyways, miss you Summer Queens!

#7 Seventeen “Don’t Wanna Cry”
This was the lead single from the group’s EP, “Al1”. It performed very well, and would win a handful of music show trophies. It won the MAMA for Best Male Dance Performance at the end of the year. I think this is the only song from them that I ever really liked. But I haven’t heard it in years. A few months after the song’s release, copyright credits were officially given to Coldplay and The Chainsmokers, after plagiarism concerns likened the song to “Something Just Like This”.
