Former T-ara member Lee Areum has been sent to the prosecution with charges of child abuse.
According to Dispatch on the 3rd of June, Gwangmyeong Police Station in Gyeonggi Province recently sent Lee Areum to the prosecution on charges of child abuse, child neglect, and inducing a minor to consume drugs. Her mother, Mrs. A, was also sent to the prosecution on charges of inducing a minor to consume drugs.
Earlier, Lee Areum had filed a complaint with the police, claiming that her ex-husband, Mr. B, had abused their children. She stated that her ex-husband had spit saliva on their children’s faces and urinated on their faces.
In response, Mr. B also filed a complaint against Lee Areum on charges of child abuse. According to reports, Lee Areum’s allegations were unverifiable, and the police investigation concluded that there was no evidence to support Mr. B’s child abuse charges. The prosecution issued a decision of “no charges” on August 8th, citing insufficient evidence.
However, the police instead sent Lee Areum to the prosecution on charges of child abuse. The prosecution also ordered a temporary restraining order prohibiting Lee Areum and her mother from approaching the residence and childcare facilities within 100 meters.
The investigating agency found inconsistencies in the statements of the victimized child and deemed it suspicious, leading them to involve statement analysis experts. The experts concluded that there were doubts about whether external pressure had influenced Lee Areum’s statements and that the credibility of the statements was low.
Meanwhile, Lee Areum joined T-ara as a member in 2012 and left the group in 2013. In 2019, she got married to a businessman older than her and had two sons. However, she revealed her ongoing divorce lawsuit in December last year and confessed to dating her boyfriend, Mr. C.
However, Lee Areum and her boyfriend, Mr. C, faced controversy when they were accused of demanding money from acquaintances under the pretense of hospital and living expenses. Lee Areum denied the allegations, claiming it was the work of hackers, but as the controversy grew, she broke up with Mr. C and claimed that he had threatened her and extorted money from her fans.
