A, the operator of a YouTube channel called Sojang which gained huge profits by spreading malicious videos about famous individuals such as Jang Wonyoung from the idol group IVE, has been handed over to trial on charges of defamation against singer Kang Daniel.
On the 27th of May, Judge Lee Joon-gu of the Seoul Central District Court held the trial for A, who was indicted on charges of violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection (defamation).
Dispatch was also able to catch a glimpse of the YouTuber for the 1st time ever. The YouTuber was seen running away from the cameras followed by her lawyer.
The prosecution informally indicted A in November last year, but the court forwarded the case for a formal trial. A’s defense claims that while she admits to producing the video, she believed the content to be true.
Previously, A lost a damages lawsuit filed by Jang Wonyoung. The court ordered A to pay 100 million won to Jang Wonyoung, but A filed an appeal and also applied for a stay of execution regarding the lawsuit results.
