Flashback Friday
Happy Friday! Every week I go through the charts for this day in the past and post the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week we are going back to the 4th week in May, 2011. Let’s see what was on top of the charts 13 years ago. These songs are teenagers now. Probably starts high school soon. Talking back to their parents. Terrorizing the mall making Tik Toks. Judging me in my skinny jeans.
#3 Beast “On Rainy Days”
Sandwiched in between Japanese promotions, the group would release their first full Korean album. This was the pre-release single from “Fiction And Fact”. It was a successful release, with the album charting at the top spot. Both of the album’s singles would reach the top five. Here’s a stage from M Countdown.
#2 Sistar19 “Ma Boy”
This was the debut song from Sistar’s first sub-unit featuring Bora and Hyolyn. The song would peak at #2 on the charts and is still their biggest selling single. It was a damn bop 13 years ago, and I still body roll to it now. I will body roll to it FOREVER. Here’s a live stage from KBS’ The Seasons when the girls made a comeback earlier this year. Ugh they’re so cool and hot and I’m so glad they did so much promotion.
#1 2NE1 “Lonely”
Okay, so like I’m not saying that Teddy can’t do his job nowadays. But remember what we once had?!? “Lonely”, “I Am The Best”, “Hate You”, and “Ugly” on the same EP? Are you freaking kidding me? What happened, Teddy? Anyways, this was one of the songs on the group’s “2NE1” EP. Both the album and multiple songs on it would hit the top spot. Been awhile so let’s check out the MV again. The girls are wearing Balmain, and the cost of the wardrobe was reportedly more expensive than the cost of the MV itself lol.
Honorable Mentions
#9 Baek Ji Young “Average”
This was her only release for the year, other than OST appearances. This was the lead single from her album, “Pitta”. This was also her last full album. She’s only released one EP since then, but a bunch of non-album singles. Both the album and song would chart in the top five, and this is one of her biggest selling songs. It’s been awhile, so let’s check out the MV again. The video stars actor Oh Ji Ho.
#10 After School “Shampoo”
This was the title track of the group’s first full album, “Virgin”. It was also the first release with new member E-Young, and would be the last to feature Bekah. This song would peak at #4 on the charts, and is one of the group’s biggest selling songs. It’s most definitely in my personal av AS top three, I love it so much! Here’s a stage from Music Core.
