Flashback Friday
Happy first Friday of the month! Every week I check the charts for this day in the past and post the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back to the 1st week in May, 2018. I barely remember anything this week. Like, half a song lol. What was I doing in 2018? What were you doing in 2018?
#3 EXO-CBX “Blooming Day”
This was the lead single from the EXO unit’s second EP. Both the song and the EP would debut at the top spot. I do not remember this era at all. Nothing is familiar to me. The trio would follow up promotions with their first full Japanese album and arena tour.
#2 VIXX “Scientist”
This was the lead single from the group’s album, “Eau de VIXX”. It was the group’s last full album to feature Hongbin and Ravi. Ravi also wrote or co-wrote all the songs on the album. It was their only Korean release for 2018, they would do some Japanese promotions later in the year.
#1 Twice “What Is Love?”
2018 was a very busy year for the group (as usual). Following a Japanese single and a tour, they would return to Korea for their first Korean release of the year. This was the lead single from their 5th EP of the same name. I remember this era! Kind of. I only really remember the chorus from the song. They would win 13 music show trophies, and the song would bring the group’s 3rd straight SOTY at MAMA.

#4 Nilo “Pass By”
So, this song was actually released six months prior. It suddenly rose to the top spot on the charts and would stay there for days. It knocked off a bunch of heavy hitters (TWICE, EXO, WANNA ONE), and people would claim sajaegi. Which does happen! But songs unexpectedly going viral also happens too. No idea what happened to the dude lol. Anyway. No music video for this song, so here’s a live video from Dingo.
#5 Mamamoo “Starry Night”
This was the 2nd single from the group’s EP “Yellow Flower”, with lyrics from member Moonbyul. The song would debut and peak at #2 on the charts. It would win at every music show, with a total of nine trophies. I do not remember it at all lol.
