Flashback Friday

Feb 23, 2024 11:23

Happy Friday! Every week I go through the charts for this day in the past and post the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back to the 4th week in February, 2014. Last Friday of the month!

#3 Gain “Truth Or Dare”
This was one of the singles from her EP of the same name. I don’t remember this song. I remember the first single from the EP, “Fxxk U”, a lot more. Mainly because of the MV lol. She and Joo Ji Hoon would formally announce their relationship a few months later. Anyway. The original music video is a 8 minute documentary type of video with the song spliced in between scenes so it’s hard to actually hear the song. So here’s the performance MV.

#2 Girl’s Day “Something”
Ugh, so iconic! This was the lead single from the group’s 4th EP. It was a huge hit, and would get over a million MV views on the first day (back then a huge feat!). This was the first time that the group broke into the top three on the charts. They would win a handful of music show trophies with this song, and it would go on to win Best Dance Performance by a Female Group at MAMA. Here’s a stage from Music Core.

#1 Soyou & Junggigo “Some”
This would serve as Junggigo’s official debut under Starship. Starship LOVED collabs with Sistar members lol. This was a huge hit. It would top every chart, and be Gaon’s single of the year. It would also win 11 music show trophies and a few year end awards too. Here’s a stage from Music Core.

Honorable Mentions

#5 BAP “1004 (Angel)”
This release was the start of a busy and eventual 2014 for the group. It was the single from their first full album, “First Sensibility”. This would also give the group their first ever music show win. They would follow up promotions with Japanese activities, a 17 city world tour, and a live EP. By the end of the year the group would file a lawsuit against TS Entertainment to nullify their contract.

#8 Spica “You Don’t Love Me”
Oh, fuck yes! Most definitely in my top three favorite songs from the group! This was the second straight single that the group collaborated with Lee Hyori with. Hyori produced the song, and co-wrote the lyrics with member Kim Boa. It is one of their biggest selling songs. I LOVED the styling of this era so much, so fabulous!
