Flashback Friday

Jan 26, 2024 12:01

It’s Friday! Every week I check the charts for this day in the past and share the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back to the 4th week in January, 2010. I remember all the songs this week! How can it be 14 years?!?

#3 After School “Because Of You”
My most favorite After School song! To finish up their rookie year, they added two new members (Raina and Nana), and released this song. It would be their first #1 song on the charts (and in my heart). This song would give them their first win, and then a triple crown on Inkigayo. It’s been awhile, so let’s check out the music video again. I still love this so much, I was listening to it last night.

#2 T-ara “Bo Peep Bo Peep”
Like After School, T-ara would wrap up their debut year with a banger. This was one of the singles from the group’s first (and only) full Korean album. It would be the group’s breakout hit, giving them their first music show win and charting in the top ten for the first time. This dance was everywhere. I did this dance at a taco truck for some tacos. The group would later make their Japanese debut with this song, where it would debut at the top spot. Here’s the MV again. Typical T-ara, there are multiple MVs. Here’s the “Sexy” version.

#1 Younha “We Broke Up Today”
This is one of those songs where I don’t remember it until it gets to the chorus and then it’s like “oh yeah this song!”, because you know you’ve heard it before because EVERYONE has seemed to cover it. This was the lead single from her 3rd Korean album, and it is still her biggest selling song. Here’s a performance of the song from an appearance on “Hangout With Yoo” in 2022. This is a good hair color on her.

Honorable Mentions

#4 Ga In & Jo Kwon “We Fell In Love”
Ahhhhh The Adam Couple! We Got Married! The show that could probably be never made again today lol. These two were put together for only one episode, a Chuseok episode, but were so popular that they were brought back a few weeks later as permanent cast on the show. They released this digital single, which would top the charts and win awards, including “Most Popular Background Phone Music” lol. Here’s a stage from Music Core.

#8 Hyuna featuring Yong Jun Hyung “Change”
Well, well, well. This is timely, isn’t it. This song would serve as Hyuna’s solo debut. It was a hit, and would peak at #2 on the charts. It is still one of her biggest selling songs. This was a really solid debut. She would promote well into March, and 4Minute would start preparations for their Japanese debut. Here’s a stage with the newly announced couple on Music Core. And baby MCs Tiffany and Yuri!
