Fu Bao, a giant panda born in Everland and turning four years old this year, will be returned to China in April under an international agreement, the nation's largest amusement park said Tuesday.
Announcing the schedule for Fu Bao's return to China through its website, Everland said the female giant panda will be transferred to the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda in Sichuan Province in early April.
Everland, located in Yongin, 42 kilometers southeast of Seoul, said it will keep Fu Bao in a separate space at Everland Panda World for a month before her overseas transfer in accordance with international regulations on wild animals.
Therefore, Fu Bao will be open to the public only until early March, it added.
Fu Bao was born on July 20, 2020, to Ai Bao and Le Bao, the giant pandas sent by Chinese President Xi Jinping in March 2016 as a symbol of Korea-China friendship. Pandas sent by China to overseas countries are returned to China before they turn four in accordance with the endangered species conservation agreement.
