Flashback Friday

Jan 12, 2024 13:26

Happy Friday! Every week I go through the charts for this day in the past and share the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week we are going back to the 2nd week in January, 2015. This week we’re getting winter ballads from the boys, and fun bops from the girls.

#3 BTOB “The Winter’s Tale”
This was the title track from the group’s special Christmas album of the same name. I don’t remember this song at all, but then again I don’t really pay attention to any Christmasy stuff like this. The album did well, and would peak at the top spot. They also did a special event for this song where they treated fans to a free lunch on Christmas Eve. I could 100% be bought for a bowl of free noodles. Here’s the MV for the song.

#2 Apink “Luv”
The group would close out a very busy 2014 with a banger. “Luv” was the lead single from their EP, “Pink Luv”. Besides winning music show trophies after its November release, it would go on to sweep all the major music shows in December with a win at every single one. The group would end up with 19 first place wins in 2014. It’s been a while, so let’s check out the music video again.

#1 EXO “December, 2014 (The Winter’s Tale)”
This was the group’s first #1 song. It would be the second of the group’s winter’s releases. It was the first release without Kris and Luhan, both of them filed lawsuits for contract terminations against SM this year. The song featured DO, Chen, and Baekhyun. It would peak at the top spot, and would be featured on the group’s first live album. This is no MV for the song, but they did perform it live.

Honorable Mentions

#4 EXID “Up & Down”
Thanks to a viral fancam, lives were changed. Upon its August 2014 release it failed to enter the charts. The fancam went live in October, and a month later the song would debut at #34. It would hit #1 in the first week of January 2015. The group would get their first music win with this song a few days later. It’s been a while, so let’s check out the music video again.

#7 AOA “Like A Cat”
The group would wrap up their big breakout year with this song. It is one of their biggest selling songs and would peak at #5 on the charts. Still in my top three songs from the group. I loved this era so much! Everything was so good! It’s been a while, so let’s check out the music video again. I remember this dude because he dated CL and then Lily Depp or something?
