Flashback Friday

Happy Friday! Every week I go through the charts for this day in the past and share the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back to see what was on top for the 3rd week in November, 2016. Everyone looks like babies here! It doesn’t make sense, 2016 feels like yesterday!

#3 VIXX “The Closer”
The group had a busy year with both Korean and Japanese schedules. This release was the third and final part of their VIXX 2016 Conception trilogy, which the group started in March. This was the single from the “Kratos” EP, which was preceded by their “Zelos” and “Hades” albums. I don’t remember any of the songs from this trilogy. But K-Pop in 2016 was a dodgy year for me anyways, I don’t remember much from it.

#2 EXO-CBX “Hey Mama”
Yet another song I don’t remember lol. But I do remember this happening. This was the first official EXO sub-unit, which consisted of members Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin. “Hey Mama” was the lead single from the debut EP of the same name. Both the album and single would chart in the top three.

#1 Twice “TT”
2016 was their big breakout year, and the group would wrap it up with this release. This was the lead single from their EP “Twicecoaster: Lane 1”. Both the song and the album would peak at the top spot. The album would end up being the best selling girl group album for the year, and the song would win 13 music show trophies. This is one of my favorite songs from them. It takes a second to warm up, but then I get so hype to this. I don’t know why lol. Here’s a stage from M Countdown.

Honorable Mentions

#4 I.O.I “Very Very Very”
This was the lead single from the group’s EP “Miss Me?”. The song was written and composed by JYP. This song would give the group their first #1 on the charts, as well as their first music show wins as a full group. This is the song that’s gonna get stuck in my head all weekend. Such an ear worm. Here’s their comeback stage at M Countdown. Where the hell is Weki Meki?

#7 Blackpink “Playing With Fire”
This was one of the singles from their second single album, “Square Two”, which was a follow up to their debut three months prior. The song would peak in the top three on the charts. The group would end the year with a bunch of rookie awards at almost every domestic year end award show. The exception? MAMA, with the Best New Female Artist award going to I.O.I. I never really think about this song. But looking back I think I do prefer this album to whatever they released in the recent years. Here’s their comeback stage on M Countdown.
