Flashback Friday
Every week I check the charts for this day in the past and share the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back to the 3rd week in October, 2016. Most of the songs have been posted before, so we’ll check out some live stages. It’s weird because I remember this time in Kpop, but not necessarily the songs themselves. Maybe you remember more!
#3 Bolbbalgan4 “Galaxy”
This was the duo’s follow up to their debut, and their big breakout hit. It was the lead single from the first (and so far, only) full album, “Red Planet”. Six out of the ten songs on the album would chart, including three that would sell well over 2 million. The duo would break up in 2020, with Jiyoung promoting under the name as a solo act. Like 10cm.
#2 Red Velvet “Russian Roulette”
This was the lead single of the group’s 3rd EP of the same name. It would peak at #2 on the charts, and is one of their biggest selling songs. I never really think of this song, even though I know I like it. 2016 was a weird time in K-Pop for me. The group would appear as Trolls with this song in the Trolls World Tour movie a few years later. Here’s their comeback stage at M Countdown.
#1 Apink “Only One”
2016 was very busy for the girls with Korea, Japanese, Asia, and North American tours. After a one year hiatus in Korea, the group returned with their “Pink Revolution” album. This was the lead single. At first I thought I remembered this song, but I think I may be confusing it with another Apink song. I don’t know, it just sounds very Apink to me.

#8 Got7 “Hard Carry”
2016 was also a very busy for this group as well. Lots of activities in both Korea and Japan. This was the lead single from their album “Flight Log: Turbulence”, the second release for the group’s “Flight Log” series. I only remember the part in the chorus when they go “hard carry” and the beat drop. Nothing else lol. They would win a music show trophy at almost every show. #10 SHINee “1 Of 1”
Ugh, why are they so cool. So cool! Following their “Shinee World V” concert, the group would make a comeback with their new album a few weeks later. This was the lead single from the album of the same name. The album would hit at the top spot, with the song peaking in the top five on the charts. The song would also win trophies at pretty much every music show. Here’s their comeback stage at M Countdown.
