The Korean Intellectual Property Office confirms that YG Entertainment has submitted an application to extend the trademark rights for the name ‘G-Dragon‘ in September this year.
This isn’t the first time YG has taken this step. Previously, they extended the trademark rights in February 2013. After the expiration of the validity period, they have extended it again on September 13, 2023. The extension will remain in effect unless any extraordinary events, such as ownership transfers or legal disputes, intervene.
What makes this move particularly intriguing is the fact that G-Dragon’s exclusive contract with YG Entertainment ended in June of this year.
G-Dragon is reportedly in talks to sign with Warner Music. However, it’s not yet clear whether G-Dragon will sign an exclusive contract with Warner Music or opt for a collaborative contract, while staying with YG.
