A lot of it is speculation about him leaving Woolim/wanting a solo career + the group feeling like he abandoned them for his own gain. To put it another way the re-signed with Woolim because they wanted to be together as a group and Hoya choosing not to meant he didn't want to be part of the group ever again. He allegedly ghosted the members when he changed his phone number but then once the Infinite members spoke about it at a fan meeting, Hoya came out and said he just didn't remember all their phone numbers so he couldn't text them all. Plus the whole no social media interaction at all in recent years is kind of the nail in the coffin that they have no interest rebuilding the bridge
