Boys Planet announces debut line-up for new group ZEROBASEONE

The long-awaited finale of “Boys Planet” has ended.

The male version of the 2021 audition show “Girls Planet 999” that gave rise to the girl group Kep1er, “Boys Planet” began with 98 trainees and ended with 18 trainees in the finale competing to debut as the nine members of a global boy group.

Zhang Hao being #1 was the most shocking, even he didn't believe when they called him lol. Everyone was expecting S.Hanbin to remain at #1 especially after that interim ranking, but it seems Hao's korean fanbase really pulled through and got a lot of people to vote for him in the final. He went for being named the first center to not have screentime at the start of the show to the first foreigner to win the final center spot. And he is already getting hate for it for the sino/xenophobic knetz. At least it looks like he is well liked enough among the korean fans that watched the show.

I'm really happy with the final lineup. 4/6 picks made it in the end (sorry Haruto and Keita T.T). Out of the final 18 I would have picked other people over Gyuvin/Yujin/Ricky but it's not like they are dozens like in other instances so I'm fine with them. The Korean fandom got their 2 visuals and the Global fandom got their visual so everyone is happy. And koreans got their all-visual lineup they so desperately wanted (minus Gunwook).

But overall it seems like we got a really good lineup. The centerz (Zhang Hao and Sung Hanbin) are so good, and they compliment eachother so well. During the final they couldn't let go of eachother. Even when they had to go up the stairs to sit down in their spots staffs were desperately trying to tell them to go up one by one but they went up together. Their friendship is so cute. Matthew is a cutie and would make a really good sub-vocal, his tone is so sweet. Gunwook is a good all rounder, he can do everything and his stage presence is so powerful (His reaction to being called #5 lol He couldn't believe his ears). Taerae is probably going to be the main vocalist, and with Hao and Hanbin they make a good vocal line. Then we have Ricky/Yujin/Gyuvin/Jiwoong who are more visual picks, but then all of them can add something either vocally or in rap, and some of them are great dancers.

The final rankings were a trip. It's seems that Yujin fans split the vote to save other trainees (namely Gyuvin and Taerae) and that's why he is #9 and barely made it when he is probably the one with the biggest korean fandom. The whole stadium was shouting his name in unison at different times. I don't know what would have happened if instead of him, Keita or Jay had been called for #9 with the whole stadium chanting Yujin's name.

I hope we get thing from people who didn't make it. There were a lot of talented trainees this time around. Even the 9 that didn't make it in the final make up a nice team as is. I got too invested in this show lol

The name is sooooo long, and it seems like a bad attempt at replicating Wannaone.

If they get a good song for debut they are going to be so big.

Do you know why Hui didn't make it? I thought he was the most famous contestant and would make it into the final group for sure.

He was the most famous in the sense he was already debuted from an mid level group and he's a known composer (Never and Energetic are still the biggest hits from a produce show).

In the show he was used as prmotion/bait during the first episodes but then he got almost completely erased. Like they didn't even show him composing/re-arrenging the mission songs when that's usually a segment in these shows, nor did they point out how good his singing was (no reaction shots to his singing), nor the fatherly figure he was during the show to a lot of the contestants.

And then comes how split fandoms where on him:

• On one side we had Pentagon fans who were either asuming this is what he wanted and voting for him, those that were conflicted on wether they wanted him here or backin Pentagon (me f.e.) and those that were in outright denial over the situation.
• Then the younger 4th gen watchers both in Korea and internationally were very against him making it into the group because "he is ugly and old" and "he adds nothing to the group" (lol) . You can easily find really ugly unprompted comments directed at him in twitter/pannchoa whenever Boy's Planet or the debut lineup were mentioned.
• And then there were a lot of viewers who thought he was already to popular/famous to be in this show and that it would be unfair to the other.

Pentagon's fandom was not big enough to begin with to carry him all the way, and all of this plus the show basically giving him no screentime after the first episodes (like the could have given him a father-son storyline with Gyuvin, they became really really close during the show).

At the end he was 13th with 935,254 points wich was not that far from 9th (1,196,622). With a better edit in the later episodes focusing in his composing ability and his leader/mentor potential he might have made it. But it seems that mnet didn't want him in the final lineup.

Thank you for explaining the situation. It really seems ilke Mnet only used him for promo and didn't want him in the final line-up. Maybe it was even Cube's request that he only went on the show for PR and boost Pentagon's popularity. Idk.

Gun Wook’s response was so wholesome!! You could tell him & Matthew were just not expecting to get in considering their lower rankings in the previous weeks. I was so pleased for them 😭
I would’ve preferred Phanbin over Yunjin but overall it’s a strong line up!

When there were 4 spots left and Yujin/S.Hanbin/ZhangHao/Matthew/Keita had not been calle dyet I thought either Matthew or Keita didn't make it. Then they called Matthew for #3 and I became so scared for Zhanghao (everyone had been talking for weeks how he had so many filler votes). I was so relieved when they announced the P01 candidates. Then I thought maybe Yujin fans messed up and Ando Tomoaki'ed him (he was in produce Japan and his fans messed it up bad in the finale).

As for Gunwook when he was not called for 8th-6th I lost all hope, but then he was 5th!!! I was so happy!

I would have wanted P.Hanbin, Keita and Jay in the team. And maybe even Kum Junhyeon or Jongwoo or Seungeon. But oh well this way korean fans are happy.

By the time they called Gunwook, I was thinking 9th would be Matthew or Hui. I’m surprised that Hui didn’t make it. I liked him in Triple H but don’t follow Pentagon enough to know if they’re popular. I guess it could be a Kim Bora situation where fans just wanted him back in his group??
Yeah- from Twitter, I thought Keita would be a definite too - jay was so close!! I liked him but Matthew had to be my one pick instead.
I loved Jongwoo - hopefully he gets some calls after this show because he’s super talented!
