Flashback Friday
Happy Friday! Every week I go through the charts for this day in the past and post the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back to the 4th week in January, 2010.
#3 After School “Because Of You”
My most favorite After School song! This was their last song of their rookie year, and also the first release that featured new members Raina and Nana. This was their only song to reach the #1 spot on the charts, and one of their best selling songs. This was such an era for them! I remember this was when Uee blew up big, remember everyone talking about “honey thighs”? Following the song’s initial success, the group would release a remix version a month later. #2 T-ara “Bo Peep Bo Peep”
This was the lead single from the group’s first (and only) full Korean album. This song would give the group their very first music show win. I can still do the choreo to this lol! I did the dance and got free tacos at the taco truck. Brb thinking about the time when I could keep up with KPop choreography. A year later they would use a Japanese version of the song for their Japanese debut, which would debut at the top of the Oricon’s charts.
#1 Younha “We Broke Up Today”
This is the lead single off of her “Part B: Growing Season” album. It is probably her biggest hit song, and is still her biggest selling song. It has been covered by everyone lol. I struggled to find a performance with Younha herself lol. I think it’s a pretty recognizable song, even if I can’t place it at first listen. #8 Hyuna “Change”
Hyuna started off 2010 with her solo debut! I remember this so clearly! It was a commercial and critical success, it would also chart in the top three. It is one of her biggest selling songs, second only to “Bubble Pop!”. She would be really busy this year with both solo and 4Minute activities. Here’s a stage from M Countdown.
#9 Beast “Mystery”
This was their second ever single, the follow up to their debut, “Bad Girl”. I think I actually remember this song more than their debut. I don’t remember that one at all lol. But this one sounds familiar. Two years after the song’s release, they would release this special MV. The video was made to be shown during their concerts at their first world tour.
