Livestreaming idols must be on their best behavior or face the wrath of fandoms

Jaechan of boy band DKZ is in hot water - because of who he subscribes to on YouTube.

On Saturday, the singer was having a livestream session to communicate with his fans on Naver V Live. During the session, what appeared to be his laptop screen was streamed live, showing that the YouTube account he was logged in to was subscribed to a channel ( Read more... )

Some defended Jaechan claiming that even if he subscribed knowingly, it is understandable because he might want to monitor potential rumors about him or his band.

I feel like I can understand it from this perspective. Like, celebrity's reading celebrity magazines to see if anything is said about them...

But I will say, I have seen many livestreams gone awry. From randomly calling another band mate and them cursing on the phone to other incidents. Like...real life can't be constantly edited and it's unpredictable. And these young idols are still learning PR and thinking it's fun but it is just more work. differentiating between work and personal must be so hard for them. Why am I suddenly reminded of Sulli's livestreams.....

It really depends. I think some idols they give them free reign if they know they are well versed in PR. But I swear the live streams I see staff at are the ones where they idols are eating because you can always see the idols nervously look over at the staff.

I think the staff is either in the same room/behind the camera or monitoring the livestream and ready to call them any time. I believe they even have access to their profiles so they can easily cut them off. Obviously this only applies to 3rd and 4th gen idols, idols like Soshi or Kara just go live on Insta whenever they want.

Sojang can go to hell but like...if you base your loyalty to male artists on what videos they're looking at online I can guarantee you she wouldn't even make the top 10 of worrying viewing habits. If people are really so bothered by this then it's not what the idols are actually doing that they're upset about but the fact that they got caught, that or they are REALLY naive - I think it's fair that idols have a certain public image and level of moral purity to uphold if they want people to support them and be their fans but this case specifically is fans getting mad that he messed up in withholding information from them whilst also feeling entitled to constant reports of his personal life and habits which makes it near impossible to keep up the facade and they should be glad this was the worst thing he was caught with. Extreme entitlement also comes with a much higher risk that your fantasy image will be broken.

Mte, like I'm sure there's male idols who love Andrew Tate or voted for Yoon specifically due to his misogyny. Sojang is trash but there's a million bigger fish to fry.

Exactly. I avoid being a fan of male idols because they almost always end up a mess but if I did I wouldn’t be worrying that my fav follows a gossip channel, I would be worried that he’s watching videos saying I should be sold as cattle.

I will admit I go through fazes of youtube, I will watch the videos posted here, and then get back out, other times I will go into youtube and scroll down my recommendations and watch things. Very Seldom do I look at who I am subscribed to since I thought I knew who I had. About 3 months ago I started to realize there were videos on my recommendation that I had no clue where they came from, only to realize I had about 4 sites I didn' t remember subscribing to under my subscriptions. I have since un-subscribed. So I must of watch something and maybe subscribed and don't remember, or I accidentally did it when I went to hit the Download button on something that button is right next to subscribe ( ... )

tbh I think idols should stop personal live streaming. They always check the comments are netizens are so nasty. I still don't understand why this one vlive I watched fans got so upset during one livestream where an idol said their type was the fans in the live chat. Then they all told them to stop saying that and sent hateful messages to stop saying stuff like that. I would think fans would rather hear that stupid fake girlfriend/boyfriend act idols have to put on for the fans.
