Flashback Friday

Dec 23, 2022 13:46

It’s Friday! Every week I go through the charts for this day in the past and post the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back to the 4th week in December, 2010. 12 years. These songs are in middle school now. Damn.

#3 GD & TOP “High High”
This was one of the singles from the duo’s debut album, “GD & TOP”. They announced this release with a performance at MAMA 2010. I can’t believe it’s been 12 years, I still remember watching that MAMA live like wtf. The album would debut at the top spot, while this song would peak at #3. Here’s the song at MBC Gayo. Still TOP’s best hair. And I’ve been shipping GD and those damn fuzzy hats since “Sunset Glow”.

#2 GD & TOP featuring Park Bom “Oh Yeah”
Yes, another GD &TOP song because I do it every year as a little something something for myself. Also, multiple songs from the album charted in the top ten. And this one has Park Bom! This would mark the third song from GDTOPBOM, following two singles from 2006. Here’s their debut stage at Inkigayo, so much fun. And Bommie’s iconic uniform of a short skirt, tall heels, heavy lashes and heavy bangs.

#1 IU “Good Day”
This was her big breakout year. She would solidify her breakout superstar status at the end of the year with her 3rd EP “Real”, with “Good Day” as the lead single. It would get seven music show wins, and get nominated (and win) a bunch of trophies at the year end awards. The song would hold the record for most weeks at number one until it was broken in 2018. This would also top Billboard’s list of “100 Greatest K-Pop songs of 2010s” at the top spot. Here’s a performance from a 2010 episode of Sketchbook.

Honorable Mentions

#7 Gain “Bad Temper”
After making her solo debut earlier in the fall, Gain would release this song as special Christmas gift for her fans. The song would receive a 19 rating, reportedly because of the lyrics. But I don’t get it, unless the video below has pretty tame translations. Anywho. Because it’s a digital single, there is no MV. So here’s the audio.

#10 Sistar “How Dare You”
I was OBSESSED with this song back then lol. Like I just loved everything about this era. The group would finish off their rookie year with this song, their third single. The song would give them their first ever number one on the charts, as well as their first ever music show win. KBS initially banned the song because of the lyrics (apparently they were too demeaning to men? like wha?), and Starship changed them. Here’s a cute Christmas stage on KBS Music Bank.
