Flashback Friday

Happy Friday! Every week I go through the charts for this day in the past and post the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back to the 3rd week in December, 2014.

#3 GD X Taeyang “Good Boy”
This was the debut song (and only) from the duo. I still don’t get this song. But I do like this performance from MAMA 2014. It’s fun lol. The so called “MAMA diss rap”, that lovely Saint Laurent Starburst velour jacket, Ailee’s reaction to a shirtless Taeyang, and “Fantastic Baby” for the 3rd freaking MAMA in a row. Remember that shit? We were all like “Well, it’s only the two of them. They surely won’t do Fantastic Baby again”…and BAM! Almost comical at that point lol.

#2 Kyuhyun “At Gwanghwamun”
2014 was a busy year for him. Along with Super Junior promotions, he took the stage for three (!) musicals, and he made his solo debut with this song. He became the first Super Junior member to debut solo. He would receive an all-kill for this single, and all the other songs on the 7 track album would peak in the top ten on the charts. My favorite tidbit about this song is that Winner’s Mino thinks that this is his most recent song. Like, it’s been eight years and it’s the only solo of Kyuhyun’s that he can name lol. Here’s a stage at M Countdown.

#1 Apink “LUV”
The group would finish out their big breakout year with a bang. This was the single from their EP “Pink Luv”, and both the album and single would perform very well. As well as topping the charts, the song would give the group three triple crowns on three music shows, being the first girl group to do so. Would that be a triple triple triple crown? It won a total of 17 music show wins, a girl group record that to this day remains unbroken. Here’s a live stage at Music Core.

Honorable Mentions

#4 AOA “Like A Cat”
Like Apink, 2014 was AOA’s big breakout year. This was the group’s last release following the success of “Miniskirt” and “Short Hair”. After making their Japanese debut, the group would return to Korea and release this. This was their highest charting song, with a debut at #3 on the charts. I really liked this song and era. Also probably my favorite era, styling wise. They look gorgeous. Fun choreo, too…very cat like lol. Here’s a live stage from Music Core.

#8 Hi Suhyun featuring Bobby “I’m Different”
This was the only song from the duo with Lee Hi and AkMu’s Lee Suhyun. The song also features labelmate iKON’s Bobby. Still so freaking adorable and I’m still mad we never got more from this duo. Yet another unutilized duo from YG Entertainment. Anywho! The song would peak at #1 on the charts, sell really well, and win a few music show trophies too. Here’s a stage filled with the cuties on Inkigayo.
