Happy Friday! Every week I go through the charts for this day in the past and share the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back to the 1st week in December, 2012. Added an extra honorable mention this week because we’ve got a theme going on.
#3 Secret “Talk That”
This was their follow up to “Poison”, and a single release. I don’t remember this at much. Maybe the styling? But I couldn’t recognize the song at all. Unfortunately, the group got into a car accident about a week after the song’s release, and had to halt promotions for a bit. Here’s a the dance version music video.

#2 Nell “White Night”
2012 was a great year for them. After a hiatus due to military service, the group would release their first new music together in four years. After releasing their comeback hit “The Day Before” in the spring, “White Night” would follow in December. They are the group’s best selling songs. Here’s a live studio version of the pretty song. Unfortunately, the original video is gone from Woollim’s channel, so it’s a reupload.

#1 Lee Seung Gi “The Return”
Following a successful Japanese debut, he would return to Korea and release this song. The song would peak at the top spot, and is one of his best selling songs. This song alone sold more than 2.5 million downloads, and yet Hook had the audacity to keep telling him he wasn’t making any money as a singer. And it went on for 18 freaking years! Anyways, here’s the song from just a couple of months ago. He started his own production company last year, and most of the videos on the channel are him singing.

#5 Jelly Christmas “Because It’s Christmas”
Jellyfish Entertainment got together for 6 holiday releases. This year features label artists Sung Sikyung, Park Hyo Shin, Lee Seok Hoon, Seo In Guk, and VIXX. I was going to be like “all boys?” but then I looked at their artist lineup and it’s pretty much all male, aside from the actresses. The only girls were Gugudan (RIP), but they came much later. Anywho. Proceeds of the sales of the song went to the Salvation Army Korea.

#6 Starship Planet “White Love”
Starship Planet consisted of Starship artists K.Will, Soyou, and Boyfriend (for this song it was just Jeongmin though). This was the second year in a row that they released a year end song together, and they would continue the tradition for the next year too. The MV features Boyfriend’s Jeongmin, and a predebut Cherry Bullet Ji Won, who was only 12 years old.

#8 Brand New Music “Happy Brand New Year”
One of the other labels that released a year end family song was Brand New Music. This song, produced by Verbal Jint, features him, Phantom, Bumkey, As One, Swings, Miss S, Shinjin, and As One. I cannot with this intro tho lol! 9 years later, a new generation of Brand New Music artists would remake the song for the 2021 year end family song.
