Flashback Friday

Nov 25, 2022 14:21

Happy Friday! I made my yearly pilgrimage to the mall for Black Friday so I could pick up pineapple mustard at Hickory Farms. It's the little things. Every week I go through the charts for this day in the past and share the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, let’s take a look on what was on top for the 4th week in November, 2015.

#3 Twice “Like Ooh Ahh”
Their debut, three months to the day that “Sixteen” ended. This was the debut single from their debut EP “The Story Begins”. The song would peak at #3 on the charts, and the success would help bring the group a “Best New Female Artist” at MAMA. Is this my favorite Twice song? Nope. Do I channel Momo during the dance break? Every motherfreaking time. Here’s the group’s first ever stage at Music Core.

#2 VIXX “Chained Up”
This was the lead single of the group’s album of the same name. Both the song and the album would chart in the top spot. The song would win a few music show trophies as well as nominations and awards at the year end shows. I don’t mean this in a violent way, but this MV always makes me want to punch Leo idk.

#1 IU “Twenty Three”
2015 was a busy year for her. She starred in the drama “The Producers”, and spent the summer with Infinite Challenge’s song festival. She released her “Chat-Shire” album, with this as the lead single. I only really remember this era because there was a few controversies with this release. She didn’t promote the song at the music shows, and instead went on tour. She did perform the song at SBS Gayo, though.

Honorable Mentions

#4 f(x) “4 Walls”
My favorite song from them! This was their first release as a 4 member group, after Sulli left a few months prior to focus on acting. It was the title track of their album of the same name. The song would win a handful of music show trophies, and be nominated for a bunch of year end awards. It would also make some international publications critics’ “best K-pop song” lists. They would follow up the release of this album with their first solo tour (six years after their debut wtf SM what took you so long).

#5 Brown Eyed Girls “Brave New World”
This was their comeback as a group in two years, as well as their first release under Mystic Entertainment. This is the one of the two singles from their ten track “Basic” album, the other being the fabulous “Warm Hole”. I liked this era. I think that the song is fun and they all looked so gorgeous. After this, the group would go on a hiatus that would last four years.
