Flashback Friday

Sep 30, 2022 13:51

Happy Friday! Every week I go through the charts for this day in the past and share the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back to the 5th week in September, 2012. It’s Ladies Night, Omona!

#3 T-ara “Sexy Love”
This was a wild time in K-pop, omg! The group was teasing the “Sexy Love” release in early July, but it was postponed because some things went down within the group. It all started with a tweet following a late July concert…and then shit hit the fan, basically. Can you believe it’s been 10 years now?! Anyways, a month later, “Sexy Love”, the lead single from their “Mirage” album repackage was released. They did a few versions of the music video (very T-ara), and here’s the dance version.

#2 Orange Caramel “Lipstick”
This was the lead single from the unit group’s first full album. It is one of the trio’s biggest selling songs. A Japanese version of the song would be used as one of their first releases in Japan a few months later. I think this is one of the songs that I always think of first when I think of them. Here’s a stage at M Countdown. I remember those big bows!

#1 Secret “Poison”
This was the lead single from the group’s EP of the same name, and their first Korean comeback in almost a year. I think I liked this song. I know I like it a lot more than their other releases. I was not a fan of 2011 retro concept Secret. This was a more grown woman concept and I was here for it. Let’s check a Music Bank stage.

Honorable Mentions

#5 Baek A Yeon “Sad Song”
Less than six months after finishing in the top 3 of “K-Pop Star”, she would make her debut at JYP with this song. She was the first of the “K-Pop Star” finalists to debut, 1st and 2nd place finishers Park Jimin (Jamie) and Lee Hi would debut a month later. The song was a hit, it would peak at #2, and sold very well too.

#6 Kara “Pandora”
This is one of most favorite Kara songs so I’m going to post it whenever I see it lol. In a year filled with overseas promotions (mostly in Japan), this was their only Korean release. “Pandora” was the lead single from the EP of the same name. The song would peak at #2 on the charts and in my heart (because it really is my 2nd fav Kara song lol).
