Flashback Friday

Jun 17, 2022 14:39

Happy Friday! It’s gorgeous outside! Every week I go through the charts for this day in the past and share the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back to the see what was on top for the 3rd week in June, 2009. All the songs have been posted before, so we’ll check out some live stages today. I only kind of remember some of the songs this week, maybe you remember more.

#3 Girls’ Generation “Genie”
Still my favorite SNSD song…forever and ever. “Genie” was the follow up to “Gee”, and was the lead single of the group’s second EP of the same name. A year later, the song would be their official Japanese debut. This feels like a lifetime ago! *cue old lady screaming at clouds* everything seemed so different back then. Simpler styling and hair and makeup and easier to follow choreo...le sigh. brb, thinking of the days when I used to be able to follow along with Kpop choreography. Here’s a live stage at Music Core with awesome fan chants.

#2 4Minute “Hot Issue”
Here’s their debut song! I always forget that this was their debut, even though I do remember this song and era. Cube would announce the formation of a new group, and a month later, this song was released. Again, simpler times back then! Nowadays there’s so much build up and promotions. Anywho! Here’s a remix of the song for Music Core. They performed a few different remixes on the music shows. More great fan chants, too! I miss live music.

#1 Lee Seung Gi “Will You Marry Me”
This was a non-album single that apparently became a hit. I suppose it’s one of those songs that men use to propose marriage to. Like, I assume there’s a song catalog of Noel and SG Wannabe or likewise singers that men just choose from lol. It’s hard to find live performances of the song, though. At least in good quality. Here’s his performance from MBC Gayo.

Honorable Mentions

#4 8eight “Goodbye My Love”
This was a non album single that would later be included in their last full album, “Golden Age”, a few months later. I don’t remember this song, but I do remember this era. Mainly because my favorite 8eight song is from this album.

#5 2PM “I Hate You”
I don’t remember this at all. I feel like I should though, but I got nothing. After the group found success with “Again And Again”, they began promoting another song on the album, “I Hate You”. They would also win a few music show trophies for this song. This would be the last song that Jaebom would promote with the group. The Myspace stuff would come out in early September, he would return to the US a three days later, and JYP confirmed 2PM would continue with six members two weeks later.
