Every week I check the charts for this day in the past and share the top three songs. Then I pick out out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back 11 years to see what we were listening to in the 3rd week of May, 2011.

#3 BEAST “On Rainy Days”
I don’t remember this song at all, but I do know that it’s a fan favorite. Also, tons of covers of the song online too. This was a pre-release single from the group’s first full album, “Fiction Or Fact”. I only remember the album’s lead single, “Fiction”. But “On Rainy Days” actually charted higher, with both songs charting in the top 5 on the charts. Here’s a live performance from Highlight, from just last fall. There’s a bit of chatting at the start, so skip ahead to about 1:43 for the song.

#2 Sistar19 “Ma Boy”
11 year later and I’m still body rolling. This was the debut song from the Sistar unit duo of Hyolyn and Bora. It was a hit, and would peak at #2 on the charts. It is also one of Sistar’s biggest selling singles. It was originally released as a single for Sistar19, but a special version was included in Sistar’s first full album “So Cool”. Released just a few months later in August, that special version featured Dasom and Soyou as well. Let’s check out a live Music Core stage. Do the body rolls with me, Omona.

#1 2NE1 “Lonely”
This was written and produced by Teddy (I know! remember the good times?). The song went straight to the top of the charts upon release, and was the first time a girl group would achieve a perfect all kill since the concept inception. They would win a few awards for the song too, including a MAMA for best group vocal performance. Here’s a live band performance from YG on Air. Orange hair Bommie still my fav.

Honorable Mentions

#4 Lim Jeong Hee featuring Hyuna “Golden Lady”
The song would peak at #4 on the charts, and is her biggest selling song. At this time, she was officially signed on to JYP Entertainment, but was co-managed by them and Big Hit. The album release is under both labels. She would go on to sign with Big Hit the next year, and again be co-managed by both labels for a few more years. I have no idea how or why that happened, but I think K.Will had a similiar arrangement too. Let’s check out the music video staring G.Na again.

#9 Baek Ji Young “Ordinary”
This was her first comeback in almost two years. It is the lead single from her eight full album, “Pitta”. It was a hit, the album would peak at #2, and the song at #4 on the charts. It was during this time that rumors came out that she and Jung Suk Won were dating, which the couple admitted. They got married two years later, and it looks like they are still married. I had to look it up because we haven’t heard/seen much of him since his cocaine and meth bust. Anywho! Here’s a live stage from M Countdown.
