ooh good that you're making this discussion post op, i watched the first 2 eps but didn't want to commit to making posts lol
on the one hand i really enjoyed the set-up of the drama more than i expected. it shows a lot of different sides to the entertainment industry and is entertaining enough with its different storylines to keep my attention which is always a plus recently. i'm curious what's the history between the two main characters (were they really a campus couple or did something else go down?), i like the new employee who's a good driver (lol) and ever since i watched stove league and realized that sojin is an actress now i'm so excited to see her in a new role! and the mean girl from 18 again as well!
on the other hand, i reeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaally disliked the way they represented 'africa' as though it's some sort of monolith, poor country and kim youngdae's characters as a white (asian? light skinned?) savior bringing water.. and they wouldn't let it go. i think they could've chosen a different route to show that he is a good guy than this storyline. this thread really explains my problems with it well: https://twitter.com/endlesshighway_/status/1517740973597417472
also in general it's kind of unclear to me if part of the show is a parody or not?
This drama is highly anticipated because of the cast and the promise of a good storyline. However, they received lots of negative reviews because of the scenes that's supposed to be in Africa. It makes me wonder why they had to go to another country when they can basically do volunteer work within SK and avoid offending people.
I liked the first two episode. Good chemistry overall. And I love Kim Seulgi's special appearance in episode 2. I missed her. I wish to see her in more dramas.
yeah it's really inappropriate to say the least. i think they chose 'africa' (like it's not a continent with a lot of different countries) because they thought it would give taesung/hanbyul an excuse to not be in contact with each other because the place is so 'underdeveloped' - as though internet and phone connection doesn't exist over there while being able to show that taesung, despite being kind of a jerk to hanbyul, is actually a ~good guy~. it perpetuates really problematic ideas and the writers should've known better
i also loved kim seulgi's special appearance, she is always so fun to watch! i also want to see her in more dramas i just don't understand that she hasn't blown up as an actress. but i think i saw somewhere she got casted (but not in a main role?) for an upcoming drama so hoping we'll see her soon again
