Happy Friday! I had Taco Bell for lunch and am in need of a nap now. Every week I go through the charts for this day in the past and share the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back to the 2nd week in April, 2012. 10 YEARS OMG! Pretty chill this week.
#3 Nell “The Day Before”
This was their big comeback after a long hiatus due to the band’s military enlistment. It was their first new music together in four years. “The Day Before” was the lead single from their album “Slip Away”. This song would peak at #3 while the album would hit the top spot. It is their biggest selling song. Here’s a live performance of the song from just last year.

#2 4Minute “Volume Up”
This was the lead single from their EP of the same name. It was their first promotions of the year, and would start a very busy year for the group. The songs would peak at the #2 spot. It was the only Korean release for the group this year. They would follow this up with a new release in Japan, which included a Japanese version of this song. I liked the song okay, but I remember really loving the styling the most this era. Here’s their performance of the song at MBC Gayo.

#1 Busker Busker “Cherry Blossom Ending”
Ah, spring is here with “Cherry Blossom Ending”. This was the lead single for the group’s debut album. Up until then the group only released covers songs. The song hit big fairly quickly, with two million downloads like in the first month. It would appear on the charts every spring since its release, up until 2020. Understandably nobody was really in the mood. But it reappeared on the charts in 2021, so we’ll see what happens this year. This is still South Korea’s best selling single since the Gaon chart inception in 2010.

Honorable Mentions
#4 Sistar “Alone”
This was the single off the group’s first mini album of the same name. It is one of their biggest selling songs, and it would peak at the top spot on the charts. They would take a trophy at pretty much every music show, and it would help them win the MAMA for best female group. Here’s a special rock remix of the song that the girls performed at MBC Gayo.

#7 Huh Gak “The Person Who Once Loved Me”
This is one of his biggest selling songs. It’s a sad ballad with an accompanying sad music video. One thing about me, I freaking ballads with longer Kdrama style MVs. It reminds me of the old days lol. This music video stars his former labelmate, Apink’s Naeun, and actor Ahn Yong Joon.
