Low rise fashion is apparently making a comeback, Koreans aren't fans of it

The "low rise" trend is making a comeback.

Fashion brands leading the trend introduced low-rise styles one after the other in 2022 SS collection and celebrities are also heralding the new fashion. Chanel introduced their low rise style where the underwear line comes out over the skirt above the pelvis. Jewelry was also added to further emphasize the style of flowing bottoms.

Italian luxury brands Miu Miu also showed off their crop top knitwear with a low rise mini that sits below the pelvis and Blue Marine also introduced their own low-rise style using wide pants instead of a skirt with a butterfly decoration attached to the waistline to further enhance the pelvic line.

Among the celebrities that showed off the low rise trend were Girls' Generation Yoona who wore a low rise "mini x crop top" fashion for a photoshoot with Elle Korea.

Actress Kim Tae-ri also attended the production presentation for tvN's 'Twenty Five Twenty One' earlier last month wearing a yellow blouse and skirt ensemble where the skirt sits below the pelvis.

However, contrary to industry trends, consumers do not welcome the low rise trend.

Kang, an office worker in her 30s shook her head and retorted, "Koreans have a short lower body so its questionable that such a fashion would be popular among ordinary people. My legs would look short, why are they styling it like that? Do they really expect celebs and regular people who are sensitive to fashions to wear clothes like that?"

A college student Park (21) stated, "This is also what's referred to online as "black history fashion." It's been 10 years since I've seen pictures of people wearing "low rise" styles like that. I'd rather wear high-waist fashions because they make my legs look longer compared to low-rise."

An official from the fashion industry revealed, "Low rise was popular in the late 90s and early 2000s among celebrities like Lee Hyori and Paris Hilton. The sensibility due to prolonged corona has led to the resurgence of low-rise fashion."
