Flashback Friday

Nov 05, 2021 14:11

Hey party people, happy Friday! I went to the Korean market this morning, and they had a playlist with 2NE1, Se7en, and Hyuna back to back to back. Hyuna’s “Red” is a lot to comprehend at 9am in the ramen aisle, but still appreciated. Also, three different Korean markets and Samyang Buldak Carbonara is out of stock, wtf? Every week I go through the charts for this day in the past and share the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we are going back to the 1st week in November, 2012.

#3 Primary featuring Zion.T & Choiza “?”
Okay, I can’t tell 100% if it’s Primary on the stage because he doesn’t have a box on his head lol wtf, but I think it is. I remember him being kind of cute without the box. This was one of the 20 songs on Primary’s “Primary and the Messengers LP”. Three of those songs feature Zion.T, including this one. It was the bestselling and highest charting song on the album. Here’s a really fun stage at some show at Mnet.

#2 Urban Zakapa “All The Same”
I don’t remember this era from them at all. This song is really pretty. I also really love this video, because I guess this would be my aesthetic. Because I legit wear long, lacey nightgowns to bed, and when I need sustenance I just throw on a bulky cardigan and head for the drive thru. This is one of the trio’s bestselling songs. It would release as a single, and would later be included in their “02” album the following year.

#1 Lee Hi “1, 2, 3, 4”
Her debut song. YG announced she would making her solo debut, and 4 days later, bam! There it was. None of the months long teasers and trailers and mood samplers and whatever the heck is going on nowadays. Such a simpler time, 2012. Anyways! This was a very successful debut, the song would chart at the top spot and is still one of her biggest selling songs. Here she is doing the song acoustic last year on JTBC’s Begin Again program, with AkMu’s Suhyun on background vocals.

Honorable Mentions

#7 Geeks featuring Soyou “Officially Missing You, Too”
If anyone did it to me, I would immediately go into hiding and off the grid. Literally an episode of Criminal Minds from 2007. This was a sequel to Geek’s 2011 big debut hit, “Officially Missing You”. It was part of a project album where Loen took indie/underground artists (like Geeks), and paired them up with someone more mainstream (Soyou) to sing a re-arranged track. The MV has a few familiar faces, probably most notably blonde Block B’s Zico and P.O.

#10 Girls’ Day “Don’t Forget Me”
This was the group’s last release for the year. It was also the first release since the departure of original member Jihae, leaving the group with the four members that we all know and love. I don’t remember this at all, and at first listen I was like “it sounds like ‘Twinkle Twinkle’”. And I looked it up and it was written and produced by the same person. Doesn’t it sound like a more grown up version of it? Anywho, they all look like babies! Minah, Yura, and Hyeri were still in their late teens here.
