I do have fond memories of f(x), though this discography imo hasn’t really aged well. Still fun to listen to! But you can tell it’s from the early 2010s, I don’t really get that classic vibe from their work like I do other groups but that’s ok

I personally think that's a pitfall for Kpop as a whole - because it's so heavily trend orientated, it's often very easy for things to become a bit dated and to pinpoint when it come out even if you've never heard a song before, haha

Oh that’s definitely true. Just overall some kpop songs have a ‘timeless’ feel that I can play it years later and still sounds fresh for me. f(x)’s songs don’t really pass that test for me, they sound like a product of their time period.

What songs would you say have that timeless quality for you? Very curious!

Haha sorry I ramble a bit! I found this very interesting. I talked about with bigger groups songs that either sound ‘classic’ to me or did not pass:

[Spoiler (click to open)]For me, songs that lean in the bubblegum pop category almost always naturally sound fresh to me since they’re a foundation in kpop history and what I strongly associate with the kpop scene. Bubblegum pop has been uncool or just neglected in the west for years now. So when I hear it in kpop, it almost naturally sounds fresh to me even when it all honesty it isn’t, since the whole industry is like you mentioned, following the trends of the west. Ballads too usually have classic appeal since they don’t chase trends as much... )
