KBS2's new TV series, "River Where the Moon Rises," starring Kim So-hyun and Ji Soo, is set to premiere on Feb. 15.

"River Where the Moon Rises," a fusion of a historical drama and fiction, is based on the novel "Princess Pyeonggang," (2010) written by Choi Sa-gyu. In his work, Choi reinterpreted the Korean classic folktale, "Princess Pyeonggang and the Fool Ondal," in a unique way and gave it a twist.

Kim takes on the role of the ambitious princess, who dreams of becoming the first woman to lead her country, Goguryeo. Ji Soo plays her counterpart Ondal, a naive but determined man who is willing to lay down his life for his love.

Director Yoon Sang-ho will take the helm of the upcoming soap opera. He was behind the success of several dramas like, "The Legend" (2007) and "Saimdang, Memoir of Colors" (2017).

"'River Where the Moon Rises' is based on a Korean folktale, but it has characters that can be appealing to a global audience. I want to thank the actors for their realistic depictions of the characters," Yoon said. "The plot is very gripping as well."

The TV series also features actors Lee Ji-hoon (Go Geon) and Choi Yu-hwa (Hae Mo-yong).
