Every week I check the charts for this day in the past and post the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we’re going back 7 years to the 1st week of May, 2013. It’s already May?!?

#3 Seo In Guk “With Laughter Or With Tears”
This was the first time since his debut in 2009 that he ever promoted a ballad song. Which is weird to me because I only remember him singing ballads lol wtf. This release was sandwiched in between dramas and Japanese promotions. Gu Hyesun stars with him in the music video. What is going on in this MV? Did he beat up all those people? Or are they just hella drunk?

#2 K.Will “Love Blossom”
This was the lead single from his “The Third Album” Part 2 album, and the follow up to the song with his most iconic video, “Please Don’t…”. The song would secure the top spot on the charts. It’s a fun song! Jazzy and upbeat and he sounds good too. The music video has been posted before, so here’s his comeback stage at Music Core.

#1 PSY “Gentleman”
This was his follow up song after the success of “Gangnam Style”. The song, live performance, and music video officially premiered at his “Happenings” concert, and was livestreamed on YouTube. It currently has over 1.3 billion YouTube views. The MV features Infinite Challenge cast members, along with Gain, doing the Brown Eyed Girls arrogant dance. Gain looks so hot, she looks so amazing in that dress in the tent bar! I totally forgot about this song! I think I only remembered the chorus and the fact that Gain was in it, but I remember nothing else lol.

Honorable Mentions

#7 15& “Somebody”
This was the duo’s second single, and their first big hit. The MV is a parody of “K-pop Star”, the singing competition show that Jimin won in 2012. The duo would also have their comeback stage on the show. They started a hiatus in 2015 that would end when their contracts at JYP wrapped up in the summer and fall of 2019. They are both doing fine on their own though. Yerin received lots of love for her solo albums and started her own indie label, while Jimin just signed on to Warner Music Korea last week and is still hosting a bunch of shows.

#8 Jay Park “Joah”
I like this song. It’s mellow and sweet and it’s one of the two Jay Park songs that I recognize at first listen lol. I don’t remember the MV at all though. This was one of three singles off of “Joah”, and the only MV I remember from this era was “Welcome”. Because…lol. The video was filmed in his hometown of Seattle, and stars model/actress/rapper Clara Lee.
