Flashback Friday

Apr 17, 2020 13:53

It’s Friday! Hope you all are doing okay. Every week I check the charts for this day in the past and post the top three songs. Then I pick out two more from the top ten as honorable mentions. This week, we’re going back 10 years to the 3rd week of April, 2010. Most of the songs have been posted before, so we’ll see some comeback stages.

#3 Lee Hyori “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang”
I wasn’t a big fan of the song, but I still learned the choreo to it lol. I do like that chorus too. I mean, the “I can make you want me, so what”? Like, yes ma’am because you are Lee Hyori dammit. This was her comeback after a two year break, and this song was the lead single. The rest of the album was a mess, though. One of album’s producers was a liar and a fraud, and seven of the songs turned out to be plagiarized. Coincidently, I've been rewatching Hyori’s Homestay over the past few weeks and it’s still as great as it was 3 years ago.

#2 Monday Kiz “Scatter”
This was a digital single and I don’t think there was a music video for it. If there was, then it’s gone now. Anyways, this was the first release after two new members were added to form a new trio. Lee Jinsung is the only one still working under the Monday Kiz name, but all three of them are still releasing music, mainly for OSTs. Although I couldn’t find an MV, there are plenty of live stages.

#1 2PM “Without U”
2010 was a big year for the group, and they started it off in April with new music. Two months after JYP officially announced that Jaebeom would not return, the group released a mini with “Without U” as one of the singles. I do not remember this at all. Not the song or choreography, which I think is weird. After wrapping up promotions for this song, the group would head over to the US to open for the Wonder Girls during their tour.

Honorable Mentions

#6 Gummy “There Is No Love”
After a two year break, this was one of the songs off of her “Loveless” EP. This did well on the charts, but another song on the album would win some year end awards. The EP also charted in the top three. I like the song, especially the lyrics. She looks like a baby here, so young! And now she’s having a baby, she recently announced she is expecting her first child with her husband Jo Jungsuk.

#8 Secret “Magic”
This was the lead single from their debut album. Personally, I preferred (and still to this day) their debut song that came out the previous fall. But “Magic” was their first real hit, and both the song and the album would break into the top five. I remember the dance being pretty popular too. I always get this confused with “Madonna” lol, they were released just a few months apart.
