Falsify finished its run over on SBS on Tuesday with good ratings and reviews. The M/T slot will be taken over by Temperature of Love starting September 18. MBC variety drama Borg Mom premiered today (click into this post for preview/details). [Borg Mom info and [unsubbed] teaser]
[Video + Photos] Power up with "Borg Mom" new teaser and posters https://t.co/Rkn5A66uBapic.twitter.com/26nTgkvVOS - HanCinema (@hancinema) September 8, 2017 Borg Mom will follow a genius inventor who builds a humanoid robot that looks like his late wife. The titular ‘borg mom will enter the bizarre world of snooty, socialite mothers as the inventor’s son enters an upscale kindergarten, hilariously named Buckingham Nursery. Borg Mom will cast a critical eye on the ridiculous excess of the upper class and their obsession with status and wealth, while also bringing the comedy as our robot disrupts their airs mid-snipe.
Yang Dong-geun (Missing 9) will play the inventor dad, who’s one of those aloof, but really warm-on-the-inside types. Yang apparently liked the script so much he agreed to join the show nearly as soon as he read it. I’ll always have a soft spot for the rapper-actor because of his part in early 2000s sitcom Nonstop, and though Borg Mom isn’t technically a sitcom, the premise is wacky enough that I think he’ll be a great fit for the show. Park Han-byul (I Have a Lover) will portray the titular borg mom, who has perfect looks and brains but absolutely no flexibility in character.
Borg Mom has also cast the cadre of high society wives and mothers that rule Buckingham Nursery, and their character names are cracking me up: Singer and musical actress Ivy will play the ice-cold queen bee of the Buckingham mothers, called Do Do-hye, which literally means “haughty.” Choi Yeo-jin’s (On the Way to the Airport) character, Bu Ti-na, or “upscale feel” in Korean, is a show-off who needs to add English to every sentence in order to feel satisfied. Hwang Bora (Blow Breeze) will portray a former girl group member who’s now a social media addict. Her name is Gu-seol Suzy, which translates to a hilarious “gossiping Suzy.” This group of mothers will be the subject of envy and admiration from Yoo Gwi-nam, played by SNL veteran Jung Yi-rang, who is desperate to join the club.
Also joining the cast is Choi Jung-won (Shining Eun-soo), who will play Yang Dong-geun’s trusted friend and assistant, and Kwon Hyun-bin, who participated in the second season of idol reality show Produce 101. Kwon will make his acting debut as a teacher at Buckingham Nursery, who is also the son of the kindergarten’s principal. He’s described as free-minded and full of hip-hop swagger as a result of having grown up abroad. This weirdly reminds me of Smart House and I'm planning on watching it, but MBC hasn't promoted it at all, so we'll see if it gets subbed. It looks like it could be fun.
An Woo Yeon and Jeon Hye Bin will be starring in the upcoming web drama “Number Woman Gye Sook Ja”.
The drama centers around a woman in her thirties, telling a romantic comedy story that mixes bold reality and fantasy.
Actress Jeon Hye Bin will be playing the role of Gye Sook Ja, the recruiting team leader of an enormous game company. Her character is gifted with extraordinary memories and computation abilities, but she tries to quantify everything in the world and is regarded as “cold-blooded” among the people around her.
An Woo Yeon will be playing Gye Sook Ja’s love interest Lee Hae Joon, a successful lawyer working with international children’s rights. His character tries to help Gye Sook Ja overcome the pain and trauma of her past.
“Number Woman Gye Sook Ja” will be 10 episodes longs, hitting various online platforms in December. Dang, this is his fifth or sixth project this year. I really enjoy him as an actor, so get roles boy!
[Junho’s drama opens new JTBC drama slot]Starting in December, JTBC will be opening up a time slot for Monday-Tuesday dramas for the first time ever, and the first production up to bat will star 2PM’s Junho and actress Won Jin Ah!
On September 12, JTBC confirmed that it recently concluded internal discussions on opening up a new drama time slot. In December, they will begin airing dramas on Mondays and Tuesdays at 11 p.m. KST, on top of their current time slot for Friday-Saturday dramas. Details on changes to the scheduling of other programs will be decided on at a later date as more details are finalized.
The first drama to air in the new time slot will be “Just in Love” (literal title). Producing director Kim Jin Won, who has been recognized for his subtle direction in works like “The Innocent Man” and “Wonderful Days,” will be leading the project alongside screenwriter Yoo Bo Ra, who has cultivated a strong fan base through works like “Secret” and “Snowy Road.” The new drama will star 2PM’s Junho and rookie actress Won Jin Ah in the leading roles.
A source from JTBC’s drama department stated, “We will now have the opportunity to air two dramas a week following the latest changes. We will do our best to continue to create fun and high-quality productions that connect with our viewers.”
[Kim Sa Rang cast in Mr Sunshine]Actress Kim Sa Rang will be joining the star-studded lineup for “Goblin” and “Descendants of the Sun” writer Kim Eun Sook’s new tvN drama “Mr. Sunshine.”
On September 14, a source stated, “Her appearance in the drama ‘Mr. Sunshine’ has recently been decided upon. Although the filming dates are not confirmed, filming will begin sometime in mid-October.”
“Mr. Sunshine” is set in 1871 and is about a boy who returns to Korea after becoming an American soldier. It is writer Kim Eun Sook and director Lee Eung Bok’s third collaboration together.
Other actors confirmed for the drama include Lee Byung Hun, Kim Tae Ri, Yoo Yeon Seok, Byun Yo Han, Choi Moo Sung, and more. This is Kim Sa Rang’s second project with writer Kim Eun Sook, having previously worked together on “Secret Garden” together. Kim Sa Rang’s last drama was “My Love Eun Dong” in 2015.
The drama stars Jung So Min who plays Yoon Ji Ho, a “homeless” girl who envies snails the most in the world because they have a home, and Lee Min Ki, who plays Nam Sae Hee, a “house poor” homeowner who lives in his corridor. The drama follows the two characters as they live under one roof and deal with the struggles of this generation’s youth such as career, dating, marriage, and particularly focus on preparing one’s home.
Apink’s Bomi will be taking on the role of Yoon Bomi, a data analyst, who works as the sole female employee at Nam Sae Hee office. Her straightforward, blunt personality is emphasized by her dry remarks and chic expressions, even to the company’s president Park Byung Eun, played by Ma Sang Gu. Many are looking forward to their comedic chemistry.
“Because This is Our First Life” is Bomi’s first drama in two years, and will air after the end of “Argon,” starting October 9.
