So Spooks is back! YAYNESS! I MISSED YOU, SHOW.
- The funeral! Oh Ros, how I miss you and your awesome ninja skills. An enigma to the end about sums her up. It's interesting that Ruth was the one to read the poem. I feel like they really missed out on the opportunity to delve into the Ros-Ruth dynamic last series. After everything that happened with them in series 5, I was hoping they'd have them have a few scenes together, because I think it would've been pretty fascinating to watch.
- The scene where Harry poisons old!Home Sec was so brilliantly filmed. I loved how understated his realisation of what Harry had done was. Awesome stuff.
- I was actually really, really pleased with the way they dealt with the Harry/Ruth side of things. I actually would've been more pissed if she had've said yes to his proposal because it would've been so ridiculous and unrealistic. I feel like they need to spend the series rebuilding their relationship and rebuilding us viewer's anticipation before they do something more concrete with the pairing. Plus, I'm a big sucker for Harry/Ruth angst.
- I like that they actually had to detonate the EMP bomb. I was sure that Lucas was eventually going to get the girl to talk and they'd stop Harry setting off the bomb at the last second, so I'm glad that didn't happen. I guessed that Talwar was going to be the girl, though.
- As for the new people, I didn't particularly like Beth, but I think that has more to do with my dislike of Sophia Myles than with anything else. Her character was pretty dull, and there's just something about Sophia's acting that just aggravates me so so much. I want Ros back. Dimitri-wise, I think I'll end up liking him, but at the moment I'm rather ambivalent towards him.
- The Lucas stuff seems to have the potential to either be super-interesting or incredibly annoying. Hopefully they don't make him angst like Adam, or else I will probably stab my eyes out with a fork, Ros style.
Overall, it was a pretty solid start to what will hopefully be a great series. Quick question- is BBC3 playing the episodes a week in advance like they did last series? I can't seem to find anything saying they are.
On a different note, I seem to have become completely and entirely obsessed with a band, of all things. Not since the heady childhood days of Five and the Spice Girls have I become this interested in a band. The subject of my obsession this time is a band called The Kills. I'm planning to do a massive post entailing just why they are the most awesome thing since sliced bread, but in the mean time, have this:
