The four hour last leg of the journey back to Tokyo passed relatively quickly with a good book, ample legroom, and a smoking room in the next carriage. It was still 5pm before I checked into the hostel though.
I decided to go out, and fancied seeing a film in english so got the subway to the far side of Tokyo, Shinjuku - a place I'd not really explored yet. Umfortunately I hadn't realised Girl With a Dragon Tattoo was nearly 3hrs long, which meant it would end after the last tube back. Wandered the streets for an hour and a half failing to find any vegetarian food until I found a nice friendly pizza place.
Wandered aimlessly through the red light district after, until two women grabbed my arm. "Massage! 2 girls! Only 3000!" How did they know I had a bad neck? But as I've been painkiller-free for over a week it seemed a waste of money so I spent Y500 racing a Toyota Supra in the nearest arcade. The most popular games there are the ones that involve punching a large number of buttons quickly in the right sequence. Not even fighting games, just hit the button when the light flashes. A bit like Dance Revolution but just for fingers. Seems pointless to me but most of the kids were blindingly fast at it.
Got the last tube home.
Tomorrow I'd really hoped to go to Mt Fuji, but the forecast is 80% chance of rain. No point going to photograph it if you can't see it until you trup over it. And no point hiking on it if it'll just look like any other wet hillside.Plus it takes nearly three hours to get there
